I purchased this tablet when it first went on sale last week - it came in on Monday and I've been messing around with it for the past few days. Figured I would post my impressions/experiences here for anyone considering the purchase.

TL;DR - Unless you're a power user (you know who you are), this is more than enough tablet for anything you would ever want to do with it. The hardware is great bang for your buck, and maybe impossible to beat at this price. However, the software modifications from Lenovo, as well as the limitations of Android itself, mean that true multi-window multitasking is still janky as hell, so I would not recommend it if that is something that is important to you.

-----------------------

In more words:

The hardware is amazing for the price. The ~13" display on this thing is great and actually offers a different-enough experience from using a phone to justify the tablet's existence - something that I don't really think can be said for the plethora of ~10" options at this price point. The screen is an LCD (not OLED), so there is color shift when looking at this from an angle, and even at the edges of the screen when looking at it straight on (due to its sheer size). However, when in use and not just pixel peeping, it's really not something I personally notice, and is a fair tradeoff for not having to worry about OLED burn-in (at least, for me). It's "only" 60Hz, but for 95% of users (and probably 99% of use cases for the other 5%), that's enough.

The processor, while maybe not top-of-the-line, bleeding-edge, is again "fast enough" for anything 95% of people are going to do with it (the other 5%, you know who you are), and happily powers through general tasks without any hiccups. The 8GB of RAM on this model is the real unicorn here, and makes Android and any apps you have run happily and smoothly. The speakers are also a real highlight, and sound great.

The cameras are... well... cameras, but I'm not sure that's actually something folks really care about on a tablet.

The software running on this thing is Lenovo's customized version of Android (called "ZUI," I think). It's mostly stock, but does include some pretty low-level modifications to how Android handles multi-window multitasking, including how you actually navigate the core UI (think: the parts of the UI that stay the same regardless of the launcher). It's meant to bring stock Android's rather opaque multitasking features more to the forefront and make them more accessible and easier to use. In practice, though, it means you have to use the tablet the way Lenovo wants you to use it, and anyone who wants to try and customize things will quickly find that stuff starts to break quite spectacularly if you try to disable features or revert back to a closer-to-stock experience. Using a third party launcher is just... not really an option here. So prepare to learn some new hoops to jump through.

Sadly, despite Lenovo's efforts, multi-window multitasking is still a VERY bad experience on Android. It legitimately feels like a hack to use it - and not in a good way. Apps do not smoothly resize AT ALL, and most really do not like non-standard aspect ratios. Even something as basic as Google Maps ends up looking legitimately broken when in a 1:1 window. I am honestly surprised by how bad it is still in 2023. For me, it's to the point where I will honestly just entirely ignore/abandon this feature and just use all the apps full screen, multitasking just by switching back and forth between apps using gesture navigation (quite smooth thanks to the processor and ample RAM).

I could say more, but I think that's the main points and I'm bored of writing already (lol).

If I was a younger man with more interest/time to burn, I would look into trying to get stock Android up and running on this thing to get rid some of the Lenovo ZUI features that I will 100% never use. However, I'm kind of past the point in my life where I can burn away weeks of my time sitting in a dark room with a terminal window open trying to get things "just right," so it is what it is.

First, your kid is spoiled
No kid needs a s7+ level of tablet

Second, this would be a downgrade from the tab s7+, not sure why you'd make this change

The only other honorable mention but for a 8.4" screen and for $129.71 if you find a 6% off code and check out those specs...AND it does not supports widevine level1... so sad.

ALLDOCUBE iPlay 50 Mini Pro 4G Tablet MTK 6789 G99 8GB RAM 256GB ROM 5MP Front Camera 13MP Rear Camera 5G WiFi Android 13

I need a new small tablet... this fits the bill at this price.

Tonight, I placed this Lenovo Tab P12 and Samsung Tab S9 next to each other for some HD and 4K videos from youtube. They're very much the same except on Samsung Tab S9, I could set the screen brightness to higher. At the same level of brightness, this Lenovo Tab P12 is not different.

To make the screen more sensitive and quicker S-Pen, you can set the pointer under input-device to >75 to see the different. This Lenovo Tab P12 even has more functions in the setting than Smsung Tab S9.
Is the P12 400 nits sufficient or do you wish for brighter?

400 nits is sufficient. Much better than many laptops out there which are at 250 nits.

LOVE MY MMACHINE.Like do younreslly need more ram? Sure it would be nice but doesn't change the performance to much.

BUT YES!!! that was the best tablet deal in the last year bar none.... price and performance taken into consideration but the performance was decent.

I hope it goes on sale this black Friday
I definitely noticed the limitations of the 4GB RAM, especially when I used it in productivity mode. Having multiple apps open, it would start to lag and programs would close in the background. It was otherwise a great tablet experience but 4GB is just not enough for many. And I am not a power-user by any means.

I've had enough Lenovo tablets with unusably terrible Wifi. Maybe they've fixed the issue. But I've one ONE Apple product, an iPad, and it just works perfectly. I won't be testing Lenovo or Amazon tablets again when iPads are $300.

wow this seems like great value; been wanting to upgrade my kid's tab s7+ to something new
You're joking right? You think a P12 is an upgrade to a S7+? this device is seriously subpar compared to the S7+

And they include a pen and keyboard at the $300 price?

Comparing P12 to S7+ or S8 is unfair due to the differences in price. I bought P11 gen2 for my kids and the color on the LCD screen is much superior to Samsung S7 lite, but not as good as my wife's S7+. P12 should have similar but larger screen. Comparing a $300 tablet to $700/$800 tablet, like S7+/S8/S9 is simply unfair.

It does support AV1 Decoding and ARM based DOCs are supporting that for a very long time and that information is available in their official site, ARM's official page for Mali G68.
Don't make up stuffs which you have no clues about.

This says no AV1. Now it's your turn to provide a source to back up your claim

I have purchased my daughter's S8. I use Google family link to control the usage time, app installation etc.

I bought her it so she can use s-pen for Drawing and arts.

how is this for an android tablet? mainly want to use it for discord, youtube, and streaming tv. ipads seem like the best bang for your buck, but youtube being assholes over ads lately makes me want to get android and use a hacked apk
I feel your pain with the iPad. Try the Orion browser. It has ability to install Firefox and chrome addon's but I don't think it works right ..yet. However the builtin adblocker blocks nicely it seems, and you can run that along with ublock Firefox extension (chrome version is very glitchy)

Cool. My old Samsung from 2019 was getting a bit slow these days, so this is perfect. Wish it has 3.5 audio, but I'll survive. I don't need a crazy powerful tablet, so this will hopefully last me another four years. But the 5% coupon and $10 off coupon plus 10% back through a CB website and this was pretty hard to pass up for the price. If it sucks, it's a small risk.
