8gb is enough for watching videos, daily browsering, excel, word etc.
However it is not ideal for video editing, docker or simulator/emulator based software development.
Still waiting for the best possible deal on a 15" 16BG/1T. Best Buy blows amazon out of the water on this one (and even Apple's EDU store).
I bought the 16 / 512 for 1399 at BB, with my total tech price. That's the best I have seen so far. Plus it comes with AppleCare in that price so long I keep my total tech active.
For those who use MS office with subscription, You can get additional discount on MS office subscriptions which makes it even better.
I personally don't like those gift card deals that Apple offers.

I mean it depends on how heavy your emulator is. I feel like the extra couple hundred bucks to future-proof it makes sense if you are doing any sort of development on it.
If running Android studio. Go for 16gb and go for a MacBook Pro honestly
Everyone on here who wants 16 gb in reality don't even use it for its purpose. If you did you would buy it already and put it in your taxes for the supposed work you do.

Cut it out you silly goose. iPhones have 8gb ram now.
Do you think this will be the best deal available during BF sales for a low-price MacBook with 15" screen?
if you want a decent deal, 14.2 inch MacBook Pro M1 Pro chip, 8core cpu, 14gpu, 16gb ram 512gb ssd 1199 at micro center, certified apple refurb. open boxes are 1079 if you see it

Interesting. Do you know if warranty on "certified-pre-owned" macbooks bought via Microcenter can only be done through them, or is it also through Apple directly?

I bought 2 open books of the unit I just mentioned, they both had April 18, 2023 expiration date. I called apple, said warranty, then got a CSR, I said need warranty fixed to receipt of new device, they transfer due to warranty department, 30 seconds later they said they got it, and its been fixed.
Both our MacBooks are now nov 18/nov 19 for 2024.
mine was SPOTLESS, NOTHING WAS TOUCHED, someone bought it, and returned it. had 15 cycles on battery, whatever. still 100% and flawless, not a single smudge or anything.
hers had 5 battery counts on her open box, someone did open it, unraveled the cord, but it was also flawless, we are both 1165 out the door.
ITS PHENOMINAL! I returned my 1100 dollar m2 MacBook Air 512gb I ordered tax free from shopmyexchange.
shit if I lived next door to micro center, id buy the unit full price, return it, next day go buy it back at open box price lolol.
but yeah, the warranty gets adjusted w apple, hassle free. took 5 minutes phone call each. she bought hers the following day

this is the link I use. - change the store to yours on this page. it shows the Macs available, for me it was
14.2 silver or gray 512gb 8 Core CPU 14gpu 16gb for 1199 (I got this open box 1079) or 14.2 space gray 1tb 10core cpu 16gpu for 1350, or 16 inch gray 1 512gb 10 core 16gpu or something for like 1350 or 16 inch gray 1tb 16gb 10 core 16gpu for 1499. I saw this open box for like 1300 though, but I don't want 16 inch, and I want silver.
worked out because there was 2 open box silvers, I bought both for me and gf. no regrets
also, if you buy 14.2 inch, buy THIS. OMG ITS SUCH A NICE CASE! black leather feel.- the sleeve that came with it, is literally outstanding too. nice thick plush and actually perfect for the laptop and case., throw away the little silicone keypad cover, I don't use them, they touch screen and make marks. - fit was perfect. and it feels so much nicer with it on handling MacBook

I've been using MacBook airs for like 10 years, I had the 12 inch, 13 inch intel, 13 inch m1. I sold the m1 few days ago for 600. just bought this, and I was worried about it being too large. nope, it's literally half a pound more, feels sturdier, screen is absolutely beautiful. its amazing and insane.
I would do this everyday of week, its still portable. I even loaded parallels, and I have games I can actually play using it now. it hasn't turned fan on once, everything ive done literally hasn't warmed up once.
its a great deal. if you have Microcenter around, if not, its a moot point
