Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.
So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.
Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

yes. but it wont be unlocked. you can activate the phone and plan by calling the activation phone number from your own old phone the system will confirm the phone and plan are activated. just need to turn on the phone to make first call. but it said "activated" without opening the box.

thats very high in tax. no ewaste fee?
Walmart charges tax on the original price ($149). State regulations on taxing discounted items like that can get complicated and there can be some differentiation between a third-party rebate (to vendor) versus the original vendor reducing price or something like that. So differences in taxing can come up between ST selling it themselves and a third party like Walmart. For instance, ST may reduce the price directly when selling it themselves, but it could be categorized as some kind of instant rebate to Walmart when selling through them.

Yes, but you need to make sure that your specific phone IMEI shows as registered on their website and that your plan / line shows as active in order to get the unlock. I've unlocked several phones like that, but obviously you're removing some of the failsafes which could alert you to a problem when doing it that way.

It's possible to get the phone with the $35. It depends on the clerk on whether he will do so or not. I was doing some work and stopped by a Super Center that was 1 mile away. At the store the phone guy said that you must get the $45 plan to get the phone for $49. I wanted to buy three, but the guy said limit 2, but I can come back the next day if there are any left. Also each phone had to be rung up separately. So each phone with a $45 plan comes out to be $112 per phone after taxes and fees.

Not wanting to have to drive out there again the next day to buy the 3rd phone, I opted to drive to a different Super Center that was like 5-6 miles away. That Walmart just gave me the phone and told me to go pick out one of the plan cards on the shelf. There was a 30 basic plan, but the clerk said don't get that one since a lady earlier got that one and it didn't activate the phone so she ended up having to buy a $35 plan again. So I got the $35 plan. The clerk rung up the phone and the $35 plan for a total of $99. Damn, if only I didn't have task to do in the area of the first Walmart, I would have driven to this particular Walmart since it was closer to home rather than my work place.

Well at least the one good thing to come out of this is that all three phones didn't have any problem activating and now shows that my unlock date is 1/10/2024. So I'm all set with no problems like others in this thread.
cant combine 2 lines for $10 discount instore? now i think we got the better deal from their site instead.

part of their requirements is the phone must be activated and not reported as lost stolen. so i guess if you give it to someone else and the phone is not active or in use at that time. unlock will not apply

I'm referring to actual experiences with activations and unlocks. Their policies don't always fully reflect what happens. Once the phone is "activated" in their system, that's what triggers the unlock and I have unlocked several phones that way without ever turning the actual phone on or even touching the SIM in sealed packet. Again, some of the safeguards for noticing a problem are removed when doing it that way, but that has been how it's worked for me in real-world situations.

Also, I've never given a phone to someone until I've verified that it's unlocked through sickw. I wouldn't want anyone doing something like inserting other SIMs that might mess something up. They always just sit on a shelf for the 60 days when I go that route.

Huh? That's not how it works... say if the phone is $830. You trade in this phone and get $830 credit the phone is $0... plus whatever tax was on the phone.

That's not double the cost of the phone.
What I mean is device is free but customer will end up paying the double the cost of the device in 24 months. I am talking about the total cost to the customer over 24 months when compared with prepaid service providers.

This is something I already figured out without having to look it up. 36 months with some expensive service is a no go for me.

It's not bill credits. It can be paid off immediately and cancelled, with activation fee refunded if cancelled within three days. Only responsible for the prorated days of service before cancelling.

Does the phone plan need to be cancelled manually, or does it end after a month? TIA!

There are people on the T-Mobile Reddit paying less than $10 a line for the premium plan. Prepaid can't beat that. Gotta do the math and figure out if it's worth it to you.

How do you get this plan though ? Don't you have to be grandfathered in to such a price ?
