Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.
So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.
Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

Thank You
Yes i checked in Walmart Store, they said they don't have stock right now. But maybe after 2 weeks will get the stock back and not sure about future price.
Probably i would proceed buy in StraightTalk website and proceed the same process.

st.com will be back to $49 on black friday.

There is a lot of stock at Walmart near me. (91502/91402)
they got around 250 of them but sold only 2 because of uninformed reps.
but sadly the reps are not able to apply discount to the order.
It seems they need the manager to add a discount.
tried to upsell me att plans but I walked out.
in my area most of the Walmart stores mentioned they don't activate any phone lines and only certain stores do this. and then i found activation stores but unfortunately out of stock

Purchased 2 from my local Walmart and they set everything up.....came home installed the sim, iPhone is activated and I can make calls etc.
1. I texted UNLOCK to 611611 and got help prompts....why not the date for unlock?
2. Do I need to set up an account etc with Straight Talk?

Send the text again. I had to send it twice before I received the date unlock message.

There are people on the T-Mobile Reddit paying less than $10 a line for the premium plan. Prepaid can't beat that. Gotta do the math and figure out if it's worth it to you.
How is that possible?

It looks that many Walmarts have a decent stock of these phones. What is upsetting
is that Walmart charges tax on the $150, rather than $49, so the receipt appears
to have double the tax amount; I wonder if this is legal (we should pay tax on what we pay;
buying directly from ST the tax was fine).

Yeah but Walmart is charging $10 less for the plan , so I wouldn't worry too much about it

I pay the tax; the retailers are just required to help with the process; if my receipt shows
$49 charge for the phone, $35 charge for the plan and over $15 for the tax it does not make
sense (I pay 8% state tax); whatever it is Walmart is not doing it right for me (I am the payer
of the tax, so I should be given an exact accounting of it).
The rules for taxes on discounted items can get complicated. Walmart probably isn't going to take their time to educate you on the specifics, but you might be able to get someone at your state's Dept of Revenue to explain the intricacies more clearly. Walmart answers to the state when it comes to their tax accounting. They really don't care if individual customers understand it, as they're free to shop elsewhere. If they're doing something wrong, the state is the place to have it looked into.

Anyone know if you can use the prepaid SIM to activate a different phone or is it tied to the phone you ordered it with?

Id like to use it with a different phone that id like to have unlocked. Unless someone here wants to buy it.

What is your state rate for cell service fees (you also bought a month of service).
That's added on to the regular sales tax & might make up the difference - some states are pretty high.

Can't, linked to phone it comes with & sim can't be resold.

Can the phone be activated without inputting the sim?
