Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.
So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.
Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

So I have the $45 monthplan, I assume if I have no intention to keep the service after 30 days, that it just expires automatically and no need for turning off automatic renewal?

I just did. The call is made from another phone and the IMEI is on the phone box.
When you activate the phone by calling from another phone rather than inserting the SIM, does that also start the plan? I'm asking because I'd like to put off starting the plan by a couple of months so that I can actually make use of it. But would like to activate the phone immediately so as not to delay the unlock date. I've never been with ST before so I am not familiar with how this all works. Thanks!

If you don't turn off auto renewal then why would expire?

Yes. When you activate the phone through their online or phone portal, it loads the phone's IMEI into their system as active and also starts the plan countdown. That activation on their end is the key when it comes to both starting your plan timer and the unlock timer. Once you take care of the activation on their end, those timers both start regardless of whether you actually physically turn the phone on or do anything at all with it.

Bought one on ST (delivered on Wed) site but just for the heck of it, tried my luck at WM. Went to 4 stores. (two with in 2 miles of drive, other 2, 15 min of drive) 1st WM was completely out but 2nd, and 3rd, guys in electric dept lied to me, some guy in polo shirt looked like wireless guy said they didn't have them anymore. 3rd one, guy told me he'd go to back and check. He never did. I saw him faking going to the back walking few feet and came back quick. Lol Both tried to sale me iphone 13 or something else.

Fourth one, No ad visible in cellphone cabinet. I asked the guy helping somebody opening non cell phone cabinet and he told the guy at counter. He asked me quick if I was looking for $50 phone. I said yes! He pulled one underneath the counter opening the cabinet with key. He asked me if I wanted $35 plan and I said yes. He moved to another terminal and activated the phone while chatting with co-employee without opening box. I paid close to $100 with tax. I was in and out the store in approximately 15 min. He was very quick and knew what he was doing.

It was at Long Beach WM supercenter on E South St. 90805

I had a similar experience to subzero_42000...I knew the phone would not be in my local WM, my luck never runs that way. I ordered online and it arrived last Thur. I go to the local WM and ask eletronics dept about the phone and of course they said with a smile they were out. So with a smile I held up the one I purchased online. They tried to tell me they the deal would not work because I purchased it online. I took it to cus service and returned it. Had a manager carry it to electronics for me and he told them to ring it up as in the ad. They charged me 35 for a plan and 49 for the phone. With tax it was $97. I have never purchased one like this and walked out without the rep giving me the ST plan card. Make sure you get that before you leave because it has the service pin that you need to activate. Otherwise you will have to go back to the store. I sent the text to unlock and received a reply with my unlock date...matbe my luck with fire deals is changing.

what ios version is preinstalled with this SE?
It varies based on when the phone was manufactured, so there's no way to know exactly what you'll get. I remember reading that someone received one with iOS 15.x. Mine came with iOS 16.6.

Not disputing this, however, sickw didn't recognize my phone as activated until the SIM was finally inserted hours later, at which point it was instantaneous.

Yeah, you should be able to activate the phone on TF with your existing plan. Just make sure to do the transfer properly and activate the phone with the SIM it came with (don't just pop in your current TF SIM). Go to the "activate new phone" option on the Tracfone website while logged into your account and choose to keep your current number. That seems to work fine for many of the new phones lately without even rebranding. However, some give an error and require a call to TF to get it going.

Note that you'll likely lose whatever ST plan you purchased with the phone if you go that route, but I understand that it might be more desirable to do it that way if you just want to use your existing number and don't care about having some other random number for a month.
So there's no way to salvage or flip the ST $45 plan on FB? I plan on using the TF annual plan

I like the dollar tree case, but the separate screen protector doesn't have the front camera hole. I'd prefer just a film rather than tempered glass. Any recs?https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-iPh...B00MWB3NFO

So in 60 days after unlock and you sell it, in theory the sim and IMEI fall off their system and it can then be activated on TF with the same sim? What's your experience with that?

Walmart in Lansing, IL had no employee who could activate devices, and therefore would not honor their price, up to whoever identified themselves as Manager.

Went to Casino Walmart in Hammond, IN, cuz Cabelas Walmart in Hammond was confirmedly sold out. Had no problem there, other than the reps using the $45 and $55 plans to sign me up, instead of $35. I caught the first one, but they wouldn't add the $35 plan even when I asked about it. But I was over arguing at this point, and wanted 2 good deals rather than getting into a fight with a Walmart worker over it.
