Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.
So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.
Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

I went to walmart, and they charge $50 not $45, and you get no discount on the second line. The lady told me it will likely come out to $215 for the 2 with tax, vs the $185 it would have been through straight talk. Next time I bring cash, I will

I got one today from store, the clerk said it's activated, does it mean i can keep it sealed and unlock automatically after 60 days?
You have to open, insert sim to activate.....you can then text "Unlock" to 611611 which will give you the unlock date.
I'm not sure if we have to do anything else online to set up an account or not

If you put the IMEI into the Straight Talk phone activation system it should say the phone is already activated and offer to sell you a service plan. Pro phone flippers, trust that it will unlock and verify it is before shipping it out unopened. I will sell the phone as open box, text for unlock code, verify the sim is not restricted and update the phone to iOS 17 before selling

I picked one up today after store finally showed available in store. The person in charge of the activation tried to tell me I had to pay three months to unlocked I didn't even dispute his lie just let him finish checking me out.

No it doesn't make sense to waste time dealing with them when you can just spend 1 minute to dispute it, and make it cost ST for their stupid behavior
Yes, there's absolutely no sense wasting time dealing with them, as it's already been stressed numerous times that calling them is pointless. But there's also no point wasting time even bothering with a credit card dispute unless the refund doesn't go through. You're welcome to do it however you like, but most people tend to take a logical approach and use their disputes when there's an actual problem rather than just for the heck of it because they make asinine assumptions or just want to cause a headache for the company.

You are way too politie. You have tried to tell others to play the long game, but they are not listening. It looks like I will end up with 4 free phones this year. 2 Pixel 8's 256GB and 2 Apple SE 3rd's to use this year and then trade in next Black Friday.

Thanks for all of you great post that helped me and others.

Yep …. and I'd also recommend that people log into the ST account using the email given at checkout just to double-check that their IMEI shows up there and the 30-day plan countdown has started. Maybe even double-check that it still shows active just before plan end if overly cautious. Could catch any possible issues if something looked out of the ordinary.

Not all dollar tree have the case. Most of them only sell iPhone 13 or plus cases and screen protectors now. Yes. I saw ton of these for iPhone 6 7 8 just a few months ago. Now they all disappear
DT stock tends to vary wildly. I've been using these cases for years, as I've had a 6, 7, 8, and SE 2. At one point, they disappeared from the stores around me for a good month or two. But they recently just got dozens more in. I snagged the last of their clear silicone ones for now, but here's a pic of some they had left. (They sometimes get shuffled around on the rack, but they're color-coded, so it's usually easy to look for that teal color at a glance.)

Is texting for an unlock code necessary?

Nope … that's strictly informational and not necessary for unlock.

Edit: oops, I misread that at first and thought you meant texting "unlock" to 611611, which is not necessary.
But no, you don't need to text for an unlock code either … it's automatic unlock for iPhones

Just call customer service, I had the same issue. They straitened it out and said they would expediate the order.

ST customer service doesn't give a damn. I called and told them to cancel after waiting since last Monday. They said they would refund. I have no faith and I don't expect to see that money refunded. However, I will call my Visa and dispute the charge. Straight Talk is an absolute garbage company. Verizon's name attached means nothing.
