Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.
So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.
Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

I got two phones yesterday from Walmart. Unfortunately I was a dummy and didn't make sure the email address were correct. I got a person who knew what she was doing and was super fast, but too fast I guess and made a typo in one of the email addresses. The correct email address one is activated and fine, so I'm guessing the other one is fine too but no way to make an account for that one! Sickw shows it as activated. So should be okay.
Rep typed my email wrong too. I was able to create a new email account for the wrong one.

Same with my Nov 08 order for only one with the $35/mo plan.

I'm wondering if has to do with my previous order 2 years ago from them for a refurb iPhone SE 2020, which I'm still using now. I activated it and then put it away in a drawer for two months. I'm sure that they suspect I'll do the same thing if they finally send me my order. Which I will, lol!
Has nothing to do with any previous purchases, they couldn't care less if you did that. I've purchased numerous phones from all 3 of the TF brands over the years, unlocked & then used elsewhere.
Suggest reading some of the thread.

Less potential headaches to deal with if you get it in-store, but people have had mixed success with inventory and getting the deal done.
Thanks. Will check it out when I'm near one.

sorry for interrupting the ST bashing (ill join soon), whats is the best way to activate plan currently? is website activation still not reliable?
Follow the included instructions making sure you call the 2nd number - for Straight Talk. (Some have called Total which is first number listed)
Just follow automated instructions & should be good to go in just a few minutes. Activated mine yesterday with no problems.

Did you just turn it off for the last 30 days or just left it on?

FYI, Tempe, AZ had a bunch 60 minutes ago (I bought just one). They tried to talk me into the 'great deal' $90 replacement plan (only $5 more than the phone, heh) - OTD, $99.55 with tax.

Do they run a credit check or take SSN if you get it from in store?

Just received my order of 2 phones ordered through straight talk. I set up an account when I ordered and when I activated the phones with the 1800 number I did not use that account. My question is since I ordered with auto pay will it automatically charge me for the next month? I would check on my account but the lines aren't on their since I activated with the 1800 number and not through the account. Thanks

I bought one last summer at $149 and paid for one month only. We went to Europe later in the summer and it unlocked itself with no service and in Europe. I put in a European SIM after the 60 days had passed and used it over there the rest of the vacation.
Great, thanks for the info! I assume it at least had to connect via WiFi yo unlock.

If you ordered with auto pay it will definitely continue to charge you until it's turned off.

Metro is an MVNO of T-Mobile and ST is an MVNO of Verizon so their unlock policies are different

A54 is another option if you are looking for a basic Android phone from Metro
Thank you, though I was no asking how to unlock Metro, just ensuring if I ported there Straight Talk would still unlock later.

BTW, I decided against trying the port to Metro after seeing that it charges sales tax on the "purchase price" before instant rebate. So tax on $600 rather than $50 in this example. I thought Walmart charging sales tax on $150 rather than $50 for this iPhone SE was bad...

If you bought it at Walmart, they should have already activated them and you just pop in the SIM. If you ordered online, you may want to try the phone activation mentioned in his post …

Wait so how do you confirm they activated it? Should I just pop the sim then-and-there and refuse to leave until I'm able to take/receive calls and texts?

Is there any downside to adding the line to my account? I only set it up when I ordered the phones. I am planning to sell one and use the other one as a backup once they become unlocked.
