Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.

So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.

Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

To ScottoDonno …

Interesting… What does Apple's "check coverage" site say?

If I click "Coverage" in phone settings it shows Limited Warranty expires November 1 , 2024 (ordered on 11th, received today)

If I check website - https://checkcoverage.apple.com/coverage
It shows error , can't verify purchase date contact support, support wants receipt that includes IMEI

That's odd… Whenever I have set up new phones, the warranty has always tracked with when I physically set it up and never saw any reference to the purchase date other than through sites like sickw. Will try to look at mine on these new ones when I get home.

Just file a complaint on the better biz bureau website. They will get it taken care of for you. Got a refund quickly after they stepped in.

Also this brings more attention to the problem with straight talk doing this crap vs people doing chargebacks.

This will make them have to answer and bring down their BBB rating if we all complain about this "deal" and horrible customer service from ST.
You're kidding?

On the BBB site ST's customer review average is 1.05/5stars, yet the BBB gives them an A+ rating.

Better to file an FCC complaint, they care about those.

I put in an order for two phones and paid for two service plans. I had trouble activating online.

Then I tried calling customer service and was given a run around. Basically the agent took my imei and kept telling me she needs two minutes for system to load and then after 10 mins just disconnected.

Then I tried the phone activation. For one of them it went through okay.
For the second phone it keeps asking me for service plan pin or to pay using credit card. I guess it's probably easier to pay for a plan again instead of trying to get this sorted by straight talk.

I just followed the instructions that came with the phone, activated by calling on a different phone while going through the setup process - was easy as cake

If so, the phone can have two more "warranty" months counting from when I actually use it as a phone not a pad.
This is definitely interesting. I'm starting to think that TF brands may not have accurately updated Apple with purchase dates in the past and so they just used the initial physical phone setup date. But now they may be updating them with actual purchase date info (or possibly a failed update in your case). I purchased mine from Walmart this time, so not sure if that may be different than through their website. However, one of the phones that I purchased and opened / activated on 11/6 shows the correct purchase date on sickw (on past new phones ordered from them online, that usually seemed to be way off). On one of the phones I have which is still sealed, the "estimated purchase date" says 10/12, which is obviously not accurate. So I'm thinking that perhaps now Apple updates actual purchase date info from ST at the time of phone activation and uses that for the warranty instead of the setup date like before. I don't know … it definitely looks like something has changed with the way it works in that regard.

If that's the case, then the days of getting an extra couple months of warranty by keeping them sealed may be gone.

UPDATE 1/11/24 … I just physically activated two phones purchased with active service in November and the warranty date tracks to my physical device activation date, so I did get the extra two months of warranty by leaving them sealed. Updated post here …

For my case, after I insert sim card, power it on, finish some setups, it shows "no service", so I guess that clueless Walmart rep didn't do it right.
I'm having the same issue. I bought the phone on Sunday evening and it is now Wed afternoon.

Issue is that I can't fix it with Apple because they want a receipt that shows IMEI which ST does not provide. Had I purchased in store, guessing Wally World provides this

So Walmart employees aren't being truthful if they said it ended yesterday. You can literally go to the Straight Talk website homepage for the deal and click more details and this is what it says:

"Offer valid 11/6/23-11/26/23 while supplies last. Must activate on Straight Talk plan in-store at your local Walmart. Limit of two devices per customer. Offer not available for Family (Multiline) plans. Straight Talk is a registered trademark of TracFone Wireless, Inc., a Verizon company. ©2023 TRACFONE. © 2023 Apple"
