Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.

So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.

Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

If it's for a gift, I'm sure they won't mind if it's been opened for activation.

for those who pay via paypal, is it better to do chargeback in paypal or just dispute with credit card company? I placed an order on 11/6 early morning and card was charged same day. 2 weeks and no shipment. Called them a few times over the weekend and just got some bs on "shipping soon" or "we don't know".

i'd say paypal dispute first then if for whatever reason they side with straight-talk (super unlikely) then invoke cc chargeback/dispute.

Yes, it was with ST iPhones (SE2 and SE3 for the ones I did). The phones will show as unlocked on Sickw as soon as ST unlocks them … even before the phones are powered on for the first time. The warranty info is what didn't always show accurately until first activation. However, it appears there have been some changes to how that warranty info is updated, so not sure about that.

Again, I don't want to say "this is how it will always work", as those things can always change. But that has been my experience and only something I attempted after seeing others report the same thing in past threads.
Some things may have changed....with Walmart's purchases

First phone purchased 11-10 (sim installed and test call made)showed up on ST website. Shows proper activation date (11-10) on sickw and shows up on sickw activation status check.

Second phone purchased 11-17 (still in sealed box) shows up on ST website (yes different emails used and days are counting down) but does not show proper warranty date and does not show as activated on sickw. I'll check again in a few days but I may have to open and insert sim or should I wait?

Same here, they also said"sorry there is no options to transfer you to a supervisor" What a joke! I dispute it with PayPal to start..

Yeah, the warranty date won't show up properly on sickw (or Apple checkcoverage) until the phone has been physically activated. With phones that I've done the past that warranty date then used to show as a full year from the date the phone was physically opened and activated (at least that's what Apple checkcoverage would show). However, it does appear that it may be updating to show a year from actual purchase date now. If you decide to open it and activate, let us know whether it tracks to purchase or physical activation date.

Your call on whether to wait or not . You never know when things can change. But the sickw warranty date was always off for me before physical activation and still got the unlock.

Phone dude at WM did not use any email but did create a user name of some sort at the register and is printed on that sheet of activation paper.

How do I go about attaching an email address to one of the phones which I am going to give away for Christmas?

Anyone found a way to find walmart inventory for these phones without driving there? The electronic department never picks up and I don't know if brickseek or walmart inventory are accurate.
yes. look up the phone pick up now option. if its out of stock or not available for pick up, use the Family Mobile unit instead, and that will show available. Both ST and FAM M unit are the same unit with the same card glued to back

The Family Mobile ones use the same SIM card, but it's a different product ID and UPC code. People could try to get them to substitute that phone, but it would be very YMMV. A number of people have been having problems getting the deal even with the correct product number.

Yeah it shows as 11-1-2023 as a purchase date which is incorrect of course. I will wait the 60 days and hope sickw reports as unlocked.

No, that has not been the case and others have gotten unlocks without ever touching the phone or SIM in multiple previous threads. While things are always subject to change, there is not much data that would show a change at this point. Obviously, it's each user's discretion if they choose to risk it.

Yep … I've actually got a sealed one right now that shows a sickw purchase date of 9/16/22 even though it was purchased less than three months ago and only recently unlocked. I've seen dates that were way off like that on some.
