Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.

So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.

Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

Expired??? It is supposed to be expired at the end of the day.
I came back at 4pm PST they were able to get the discount on the system but not at the register to pay ($149 when I tried to pay), later at 5pm we tried again the system said it's no longer eligible. However I did manage to get 3 at ~1pm PST

You were lucky to get 3, that's more than most were able to get since there was supposed to be a limit of 2.

Mine was fully activated. I didn't need to do anything. Just put the sim into the phone and it just works.
Phones purchased from Walmart should be already activated (if they did it properly). But WDEagle purchased online from ST. Those do not come pre-activated and everyone getting it mailed must go through the activation.

I think I saw someone already answered this but I can't find back. Does anyone know if it would be able to unlock without turning the phone on/ doesn't have to put the sim in or can I just leave it sealed and wait 60 days?

Some of us have gotten unlocks without ever unboxing the phone or touching the phone or SIM at all, but obviously there's a bit of added risk if choosing to do it that way. That's already been discussed quite a bit in earlier posts. The "network activation" seems to be what triggers the unlock countdown, not the physical activation of the phone. But again, such things can change so nothing is certain when venturing into options like that.

If I'm just gonna trade in all my 3 iphones at apple store there's no need to unbox it right?

Not sure on that one, as I haven't done any trade ins. I wouldn't think you would need to unbox, but I saw one or two comments mentioning that their IMEI wasn't recognized when trying to trade in still sealed or something like that. I'm not sure, but I wonder if perhaps running through the phone setup activation may do something to show the IMEI as being valid (physically activating the phone changes some things, as viewed on Sickw, so I'm not sure and that is just speculation). I haven't seen much data with people handing over sealed phones like that.

It has been 3 weeks and no refund for my order. 1 phone with $45 plan. I submitted my chargeback to paypal today and they paid me back within seconds. The case is still under review on the paypal site.

I'm gonna try to look up the IMEI on some sites before then. Thanks.

Sure. And maybe try running through the trade-in option at one of the automated sites and entering your IMEI to see if it shows as a valid trade. And if not, try again after activating the phone (again, total speculation on that part, but I just remember someone saying they were seeing one as an invalid trade for some reason)

Activated but port out the number, will the iPhone still be unlocked after 60 days?
