Probably since you added it to your account at a rapid pace, it triggers a block. All you need to do is call apple ask for post sales department then ask them to check if you have purchasing block in the system, then they will tell you yes, after that ask them to submit an unblock request to their "back office support team", they fixed it in about a day.

Generally training does not teach the front-end rep about purchasing blocks on accounts but their back end team will know how to lift purchasing blocks - assuming your GCs are legit.

I'm waiting for Cyber Monday for CITI's annual 20% deal on Apple, but this is tempting. Has Discover offered 20% on Apple GC redemption before?

As discussed, the issue is when you redeem the GCs to add them to your Apple balance and then try to pay for a physical item from your balance.

Paying for physical or digital things with Apple GCs directly is not an issue, so no reason to warn people off a good deal on GCs.

If you want to be sure to steer clear of the problem, use the GCs to pay for a purchase directly and skip adding them to your Apple balance.

Well, I haven't used my Apple gift cards yet. It's from the thread I posted a couple weeks ago. When Amazon was selling Apple Gift cards for ~50% off (like $106 netted you $200 gift cards). I added a whole bunch to my Apple account but this is what was weird. Apple on their website has a link for gift cards but when you click it, while logged into your account, they force you to install iTunes on your Windows PC (lol, what!?) to redeem the gift cards.

Every step of the way they forced 2 factor authentication. I had just logged into Apple's website with 2 factor authentication, a minute later I click a button to look at my account details... 2 factor authentication again. Installed iTunes, forced 2 factor authentication again. I must have had to do it 4 times in the matter of 5 minutes. I still have no idea if the gift cards will work on their website or it will force me to use it in iTunes. They don't make that clear. I'm just going to wait for a black friday wait for an Apple deal, use my gift cards to get an additional 50% off. Sell that Apple product on craigslist, then buy myself a proper Android phone. That's the plan. Autumn

For everyone having troubles using Apple account balance after redeeming gift card. Had to deal with this issue twice in Summer. Just wait 30 days to use your balance for hardware purchases. Apple puts a temporary balance block, just in case if someone reports the gift card

When this happened to me last year, it was waaaay after 30 days from the date when the last gift card was added to the account.

Just a data point for others inquiring about using gift card balance added to your Apple account...

I was just able to use part of my gift card balance yesterday when purchasing an iPhone on the Apple website. I've had that balance for some time now. At least 1-2 years and have been adding to it every now and then when deals pop up on here. At checkout I had the option to apply any portion of my gift card balance.

Not sure if the issues people were having were from a while ago and have since been fixed but I had no issues yesterday. I ended up buying some more gift cards with my Discover rewards balance.
