Yes and No. The boxes themselves only have still ads on the side, as they do not provide any content. They are boxes that allow you to find streaming sources (called "channels") of content (like AppleTV, Netflix, Paramount+, etc.). Each channel can have membership levels that either do, or do not, show ads.
The Utra remote is better for one thing. It's the has power button for TV, headphone jack (private listening), and it is the point anywhere type. No need to aim the remote at the Roku like the Simple Remote.
Although you can download the free Roku app[roku.com] and do private listening for your Roku too.
Walmart will hve an Ultra for $34 on 11/8. That comes w/ the $5 Redbox credit and 2-months of AMC+ too.
I just replaced this model with the Roku Express 4K+. The Roku Premier is quite old and has very old and limited wifi capability. The Roku Express 4K+ is currently on sale for $29.99 on Amazon.

Do these Roku boxes have ads?

What are the biggest differences between this version and the Ultra?

Ultra has a better remote, but if you have a smartphone it's arguably the best version. Especially if you're using wireless earbuds as you can use your private listening through the app.

Streaming stick+ if they still have it is better. The remote is wifi and does not have to be pointed at the device. Also the stick just uses the HDMI and needs USB power which can be plugged directly into the TV (it also comes with a cord for a wall plug). I have this and got it for my parents, it's out of the way, the remote works no matter where you point it and it has a strong wifi so even cordless we never had trouble streaming even 4k content.
That's the ultra LT which I think is lower end model I found the regular ultra at Lowe's on clearance for 60 bucks I think the difference is Voice, remote and rechargeable remote but I think it's worth a few extra dollars to make sure that you have solid 4K HDR and Atmos

Ultra LT is not the same as Ultra. Doesn't have several features including Dolby Atmos. I don't recommend premier. very old. 4k stick if you don't want atmos. Ultra if you do Ultra Lt if you don't want Atmos but you want faster than 4k stick.

It gets fuzzy with all of these other retailer specific models like ultra LT or this premier box.
The ultra lists networking as:
802.11ac MIMO dual-band Wi-Fi® (2.4 GHz / 5 GHz)
10/100 Base-T Ethernet
I guess if other players offer same thing, than you can argue it's equivalent.
