It's worth specifying: Removing the barometer means the 5 can't track climbing stairs. I have the 4 and really there isn't anything this device does that makes you feel like it needs a better screen. The more advanced models with maps the amoled makes a huge difference but I've never had any issues with mips screen for seeing time or fitness data
the MIP screens are ugly as sin, but give you excellent visibility and battery life in broad daylight. Nice watch for those that value health metrics and battery life over form

This is a fitness watch and it's functions are geared towards that.
Some models do guide you on a run I believe, I'm not sure about this one.
However where I find the GPS useful it's when you are on a run or on a bike. Then the watch turns on GPS to gather data along with other metrics. This gives you a better idea of your effort along with other useful data.
It also presents a map of your pace at the end of your excersice.
This one doesn't guide your run. You can't load routes onto it. The GPS is for recording your run/ride.
When I think GPS for a watch, I imagine a map that says where I am. Where is the map? What's the point of having GPS if it doesn't tell you where you are?
It allows the watch to provide distances to greens when playing golf. Good for +/- 1 to 2 yards.
This is a fine sports watch for a decent price, but beware that the $350 retail price is a hoax. That may have been the price 4 years ago when this watch was first released, but retailers like Amazon have been selling it for under $200 for the past year. Garmin released an upgraded model (Vivoactive 5) earlier this year that has more features and has a $300 retail price.
Also, the 4s model is a smaller size that is intended mostly for women. Amazon sells the larger Vivoactive 4 for $200 right now and that price will probably go down as we approach the holiday season.
Just 8 hours battery life? No, thank you. I like my Vivosmart HR+ just fine.
I had a Vivosmart HR+ before I bought my Vivoactive 4S, and the biggest negative of my Vivosmart HR+ was that it took forever for the GPS to lock when I'm trying to start a walk or run. The Vivoactive 4S is far faster, although every once in awhile it goes out to lunch and takes over a minute to lock as well. I also like being able to download custom watch faces on the 4S. I have one that displays my step count, step goal, and heart rate in addition to the time and day/date, so I don't have to press any buttons or swipe to see that data.

.
It is important to note that the Vivo5 also /removed/ a very important feature: the compass/barometer. So the only way to count stairs on that new model is via the GPS altimeter, which are notoriously imprecise. Honestly, the Vivo4 is in some ways the superior model for those who climb stairs or live where there are hills/mountains.
I'm wondering if a Vivoactive 4S at $150 is a better value than a Vivoactive 5 at $300 (currently) or even if it went on sale later at around $250. I think I would actually prefer having the always on MIP display on the 4S and to be able to view it outdoors clearly in all conditions. It doesn't seem like an AMOLED display on the 5 is that important and it will be hard to view in sunlight. Also as mentioned in other posts, the 4S has the barometric altimeter which the 5 doesn't. Are the newer features on the 5 worth the extra cost?

Amoled also has more pixel density but really this device doesnt have any apps that require high resolution. I'd go with the 4 rather than 5
Very good smart watch but the strap circumference (wrist size) is 20 cm. I really like it but due to it's fitment I will need to return it. I couldn't figure out how to get a band of 18mm for bigger straps/wrists.
