The cheaper that 64 GB model gets, the more tempting it is to use as a mini PC.

Whoa, didn't even hear they released a new version (the OLED one).
Aside from the screen upgrade, it gets a slightly faster/more efficient SoC (6nm instead of 7nm), potentially less noisy and hot, 25% bigger battery, Wi-Fi 6E, and it weighs a little less.

Really depends on what you play. If you want to play almost all PC games then Ally, but if you have a large existing steam library, then this would make more sense.

Know y'all excited for the OLED version, but it's not slick. Nor will this sell out more than the first few weeks. It ain't 2020, 2021 and things aren't flying off the shelves.

Asus tried the same thing with Ally, and never sold out. Ok, Valve is king, but this isn't going to be hard to get folks

I disagree. Have you heard of the Analogue Pocket Transparent limited edition?
While the Steam Deck may not be as collectible as Analogue products, it is closer to one than Asus is.

Edit: I re-read your comment. I thought you were talking about the limited edition Steam Deck. But if you are referring to the OLED models not limited edition, I think you may be right. It looks as if Valve is working towards making the oled version the default version.

I'm all in on the 512gb OLED model when they get a sale discount. My Switch OLED looks so much better than my son's LCD Switch (personal taste, I know).

OLED version is a huge upgrade even if the frame rates are the same.

Can't wait for scalpers to scoop all of these OLEDs up 😒
I doubt that'll be the case. I don't know how they are doing it this time, but when the original steam deck released only those people could buy it that had older steam accounts with at least one purchase already tied to their account (I may be wrong about the particulars but was something along those lines). Idea was that scalpers can't just get bots to create multiple fake accounts. I believe it was only much later they opened up steam deck purchases to new accounts.

In any case, even if they keep purchases open to all, it's not a mainstream console. Doubt scalpers will bother.

The screens on these LCDs are very hit or miss. Light leaks really distract me and the first unit I got had it so bad. Steam said it was acceptable and not an RMA issue. I had a shoulder button go out and RMA'd for a new one and it had a FLAWLESS screen so that was my experience with these.

There's huge demand of the Pocket because Analogue is creating the short supply. They released the glow in the dark and transparent Pockets while some people didn't even get their black or white Pockets that they preordered months ago. Also, the handheld market has been saturated lately with Ayaneo churning out devices every 6 months.

Valve also said that the Steam Deck 2 is in the works and it's just 2-3 years away. They're probably just waiting for the APU to advance further to become more power efficient.

Not personal taste. The OLED Switch's screen is objectively a better display than the LCD Switch.
