That's not how it works you have to return the same one you bought from that place. One time I bought two airtags from best buy and needed to return one when I went there the guy scanned it and said it's not the one attached to your receipt even though it was mew unopened thet didn't took it and needed the same one because the receipt is attached to the serial number at many places for these items.

Thanks for the info...but I don't think it's devices because I currently have 16 Airtags and 4 devices on the Find My app right now. I'm assuming it's 16 Airtags (what they list as "items" under the Find My app).

I am DEEP in the Apple ecosystem. Please share with me some of your use cases for AirTags, I wonder if there's anything in my daily life that would be immediately made more efficient or comforting knowing I have one (or several).

Genuinely asking as this seems like a great price for a 4-pack.
I have one in each of our suitcases. They have liners you can unzip (to get to the attachment points for the wheels and things for repair, apparently) so I put them in there and they just live there constantly.

I have one on each of our bicycles. I 3D printed little holders that let me zip tie them under the seats but you can buy inexpensive hiding contraptions on Amazon.

I tossed one in the wheel well of my and my wife's car. It's amazing how well this works, even when we're parked on a suburban street. It seems folks don't need to pass all they close for all that long for it to register and report.

There's one on a holder on my dog's collar. One in my laptop bag.

It's a sickness Smilie

I get a $10 coupon every time I return anything to Amazon through them. It's only good for $30+ though.
I just got the coupon but the terms said not valid on Apple lol

If someone steals my stuff with an airtag, and they take out the battery, would I be alerted when it lost power? What if they for some reason put the battery back in, would I be alerted the battery was tampered with? Just thinking if I didn't find out something was stolen til later, would I have to "look for" the airtag to know it's not where it should be. I wouldn't constantly be pinging my bike if it's just parked somewhere. It'd be nice to know if it's gone and they're smart enough to look for airtags.

yeesh. What if I need it now?
Any retailer willing to price match at a later date?

I am flying out on Mon, last time I needed to wait 2hrs for my luggage and they kept changing the conveyor belt. Was so annoying going back and forth with no idea where my bag was. I hope this will be helpful.
Yes, these will definitely help. They are essential for keeping track of your checked luggage. Hopefully you won't ever need to locate your bags when they get totally misplaced by the airlines.

The tracker for the new integrated Google Account/Find network:

Chipolo One Point: https://chipolo.net/en-us/product...-one-point [chipolo.net]

Tile's network is non-existent outside of major cities and many notification features are behind paywall. Only the Tile Pro has user replaceable battery, everything else is major e-Waste.
Thanks for the tips. I may have to try Chipolo until Google can develop one.

If I were the thief and I found the Airtag, I would just cut the Airtag loose and throw it in a city bus. Why would I bother removing the battery?

Local stock is only showing a handful in each store. So unless they are stocking for this deal day of might not be worth the goose chase, at least at location is near me

Thieves tend to not over-engineer thievery; find AirTag, toss in a public trash can.

so, this requires some iphone around to let you know where it is.
Is this not a problem? or do we always expect some iphones around? I imagine it will not work if you lose your backpack during a hike. what are the other feasible/economical solutions that will work without Iphone or Samsung phone around?

It's not really a problem, no. There are ones that use cellular but they require service plans and are more expensive and use more power.

Realistically there are no other feasible and economical alternatives to this product. They work remarkably well and blow away the no name Bluetooth trackers that came before them precisely because there are always iPhones around.

Anything you get that doesn't rely on phones will require its own SIM card and plan to provide for the data upload. They're out there and not obnoxiously priced but they can't be the tiny little independent things like AirTags. Here's an example of something that gets hardwired into a car and which is bring your own sim.

I'm not sure how someone loses an item that they literally wear during a hike, but I'll play along.

Think about this - you're buying this tracker if YOU have an iphone. So as long as you and your bag are together, its location is being tracked. Now say you set your bag down during a hike, took a rest, had some snacks, and now you're back to your hike. And you realize, an hour later, that you don't have your bag anymore. But your phone is on you. So your bag's location will show up in your phone as the last place that you and your bag were together - that is, the last place you had it before you left it behind. And unless you're out in the deep wilderness where no one else ever hikes, there's a VERY good chance that someone else with an iPhone will walk by it before long, and that'll cause the location to update.

"But what if my phone is in the bag too?" Well, then you'll be able to find that using the Find My Phone app. Find the phone, find the bag.

So the only scenario where this doesn't really end up helping you is if you're out hiking way out in the middle of nowhere, with no one else around, you somehow manage to lose the thing on your back with your life-saving water and food in it, and then it gets carried off by a bear so that the location you last left it at is no longer being tracked.

If you want a full-on GPS tracker with independent tracking, be prepared for something larger and significantly more expensive.
