HomeKit version is $20, this is the Alexa/Google Home/IFTTT only version.
Get one of these for your Christmas tree lights. Set a schedule and forget about it.
If you want Kasa switches that also monitor energy use, they have a two pack for $25. I like all my Kasa smart stuff. Good app and reliable.

can those have the appliance turn off after so many kilowatt hour usage? otherwise I see no benefit to knowing how much energy was used as I still have to pay my electric bill
I'm kind of a nerd and I love the energy monitoring. I especially like knowing how much energy my entire desktop computer, including a laser printer, uses when it goes to sleep. The more aware you are, the more changes you can make to save energy. I wish they made a 20amp monitoring switch.

I have one of these from like 5 years ago. it's kinda crappy. Mine for some reason no longer work on a schedule. I deleted and reconnected the smart switch and nothing helps.
You can't compare a 5 year old smart switch to a new one. They have improved.

I agree but I wanted to give a data point.

I've been switching to these from some Jinvoo/Smartlife plugs because the Kasa plugs maintain power state. So if these are on when power is lost, it'll still be on when power is available again.
If my Smartlife devices are "ON" when the power fails, they boot up in the "ON" state when power returns. Same is true for "OFF" state.

And, naturally, they behave identically when unplugged and plugged in again. Mine are not Jinvoo. They are Geekbes.

Does anyone find the Kasa account creation to be particularly invasive?

The 2020 plugs I bought were NOT Alexa friendly, no matter how closely we followed their directions. Read the reviews, it wasn't just me. Unfortunately, I missed the return windows & took a hit. Just stick with Amazon smart devices. They don't play well with others.

What do yall use these for? I already have a couple smart plugs from previous sales but have found all the most desired use cases I have in my home would be for devices that require a button press and don't work with smart plugs...

This stuff is great for your grandma that don't know how to use a cell phone but can be a great help for her to unplug the rice cooker without using her shaking hand.

Comparison of HS103 (regular profile) vs EP10 (mini profile) https://community.tp-link.com/en/...pic/263664

@Doug-in-S.D.CA
I ordered some of the EP10 and the HS103 units on Amazon - they both advertise as 15A. They arrived and all the markings on both in terms of amp ratings and everything are identical. Similarly, when I loaded them up, they worked identically with all the same functions and everything. Couple differences I'd mention are as follows:

1. The EP10 are nearly identical in length and height as the HS103, but are more shallow, so they stick out from the wall slightly less.

2. The EP10 appear to actually have a body that can come apart because they have a single screw in them on the back, whereas there are no screws on the HS103. I wouldn't recommend taking either apart, and I'm not sure why you would, but it's a difference I noticed.

3. The light on the EP10 is only on the side button, which is fairly small, and sorta recessed, whereas the lights on the HS103 are both on the button and on the edge lit portion on the end too (take a look and you'll see what I mean.) Which you prefer will probably be preference. If you like being able to see the light indicating on / off while looking at it dead on, the HS103 does that. If you prefer not to see the light that way and/or you want as little light as possible when you turn the lights out, the EP10 would be what you want.

4. I got the 4 packs of both to compare, and the EP10 came in a smaller box, as you'd expect. The EP10 box was in a more classic electronics packaging with the glossy plastic-like finish and color pictures / printing on it. The HS103 came in what seemed to be more environmentally friendly packaging because it had no painted glossy finish and color printing / pictures; instead it just the cardboard with black printing. Internally the packing was very similar.

5. After both being left on for a day without anything plugged into them, they were both warm, but not hot. Neither were noticably warmer than the other.

That's really all I can think of, so the tl;dr is that these are essentially identical units besides the size and lights.
