If you want something lightweight, just grab a small Fender Rumble. About $90 for a 15 watt. If you have a good set of headphones, you could go with something like a Zoom B1 Four, about $100, that lets you have effects and stay silent. Both also allow for a secondary input if you want to hook up your phone or something similar to play along with your music.

This is a great starter bass. Shorter scale, if that matters. If you really have an interest in staying with bass, you might want to go with a longer 32-34" scale as 34" is "standard"

Lol all music snobs say that this bass isn't even used for REAL music and they've never seen a short scale bass ever used by an ACTUAL musician too, right Paul McCartney?(there are many other short scale bass players in popular bands)
All music snobs say that any instrument under $200 isn't even worth playing, right Eddie Van Halen?(his first guitar was a $70 Teisco)
I personally love my mikro. It's in the flat walnut and i call him "Lil' Nutty". I've done nothing to it, it was magic right out of the box.

Anything with a big speaker and lots of wattage. I've personally never purchased a new amp, only used(I'd rather buy a used 50 watt amp for $100 instead of a new 15 watt amp for the same price). It's better value and you can usually hear how it sounds right there. Pawn shops have great finds. Don't be afraid to ask to demo it in store. Don't be afraid to also bring your instrument and gear to demo it. Do research on your favorite bands and favorite musicians and see what they use, what brands they use, what they used starting out.

Good price. I spend a lot of time looking at used basses, and you can hardly even get one of these used at this price.
These things are fun to bang around without worrying about. Or they'd make a great starter instrument.
If scale length is a concern, higher tension strings will help it have more of the feel of a standard scale bass, with a tighter sound.

Purchased one of these, same color, 6 months back. After a month, the electronics went out, in a distortion way, and was unplayable and had to return it back to Adorama unfortunately. I did like the feel and the sound of it, bit just didn't hold up for my experience. Still tempted to get another one. Try again.
