Old Movies used 35MM or larger film in most cases which allows for high resolution. Article with more info https://www.howtogeek.com/199182/...el%20image

Yes! Scanning original film negatives can create super high-res images depending on the film size. For example, 35mm film can scan up to 5.6k resolution. So old movies that are scanned from their original film and then mastered with improvements such as HDR and Dolby audio can lead to viewing old movies in a whole new impressive light.

4K? 🧐 Is that actually possible? Genuinely asking.

Warner Home Video always takes meticulous care with its classics catalogue, but the pressure to deliver on one of its crown jewels must have been enormous. The studio rose to the task and the result is a consistently dazzling effort that's more vibrant, lush, and detailed than any previous rendering.

Original post has link to Blu-ray.com review which has all the information you asked. Plus how they created the 4k version and how is it different than previous versions.

This movie holds up. It doesn't feel nearly as old as other movies of the era.

They've done older movies than this. The Wizard of Oz is in 4K.

Older films look fantastic in 4k. Ben Hur for instance never looked so good. If you were alive during the time it first aired in theaters you wouldn't have seen the color reproduction or detail resolution. The detail is stunning.

I watch Casablanca once a year. It never gets old, always seems fresh. It's also funny and riveting, and the characters are incomparable. If you haven't seen it, do so! You won't be disappointed. It's pure cinema and almost perfect.

Most really successful movies get synthesized by Hollywood to the point where their formula gets overused and oversaturates the market. When you watch some of the old greats, if it's for the first time, you tend to think that it's just another "tired movie from that era". But some still shine even when they were standard bearers of their era.

Out of these retailers, which has the best chance of including a cardboard slip cover?

Even though so many things have changed in my world since the first time I saw this film, I get a finer sense of what it all adds up to after watching it again.
