Honestly it was better to get the 2021 model with ads during Prime Day for $75. This is not that slick. I hope they run that deal again for BF

Ahah, what. Woots says: 'Now $54.99 was $249.99', it's an obvious lie.

FYI, Oasis 2 and Oasis 3 (with warm light) have no option to replace the battery. The replacement battery is not even made in market. By design, once the battery goes, the device is obsolete. If you try to take out the battery, it would destroy the screen first.

For the other Kindle Paperwhite, some of them have the option for replacement battery. So, Oasis is really poor in that area.

On top of that, probably because of software issue, once you download a file to your Oasis, the file system would try to re-index no stop. If you have a lot of files, the sorting will drain all the battery power. From my experience, I don't turn on wifi on my Oasis and I rarely add any file to it. It is in high maintenance mode for me.

Consider Oasis 2 was introduced Nov 2017. A refurbished one would have very poor battery life after 6 years.

As a result, I treat my Oasis as a collector item and I use Kindle Paperwhite for my reading.
Sounds like a dumpster fire all around. Anti-repair, poorly optimized, closed-source, etc. "Collector's item"....more like "e-waste".

Been reading ebooks off iPad pro 12.7 and my phone 🀳🏻. This should be a better way for me to read ebooks.

Just placed order! 32 gb seems really good (I have audio books)
the 4g lte free connection seems cool on paper, not sure on actual usage tho

My first kindle device of any type.

Will find out in few days !

That is a good deal. I have one of these (non-cellular version). Only three downfalls. The reading lights are like they just stuck some led's around there, so it isn't an even light on the screen. You got to charge it like every month even if you don't use it because it uses power when off. Actually it never is totally off. One other thing that is annoying to me now is it uses the older band of wifi. Most routers are dual band, but I personally only keep the 5ghz on. This is 2.4ghz. In terms of reading it has a very good pixel density, so the words are very clear. It also is responsive enough so turning pages isn't annoying like older e-ink readers.

ha ha...
I bought one of this older 32GB few years ago ($110) for my niece, and she recently lost it. My sister asked me to buy a 16GB 2021 version as a replacement for her daughter in coming BF sale, while noting that the 2018 version would probably not be availlable anymore brand new.

As soon as I saw this for $55, it's a no brainer for me and in for 2. One for niece and one for my son this time (his 1st kindle reader). At $55, it's still a very solid device. The 2021 new features are not really appealing to me, except the larger screen (but of coz heavier). I usually don't recommend to read in the dark (for the good of eyes) and would rather use this 2018 for few years and get a 2024 or 2025 version in the future.... if needed

Yes, this is the international version and it was originally priced at $249 with occasional sales at $125. Just check the history at Amazon and 3 Camels:

This is the 32GB LTE version. It spent 80% of it's time at $249 since 2019 according to keepa price tracking.
I didn't even realize it was LTE. Well that pushed me over the edge. I guess I'll have to return the case I bought anticipating a 2021 purchase on Black Friday.

I'm tempted to buy a couple more for family members, but doubt anybody would use it...

This actually is a good deal, since usually the LTE ones are more expensive. I have a Scribe but it's a bit too big to read laying down and doesn't have cellular

Woot says they are functionally the same but are we sure that the international LTE model will work on USA cellular bands? Most international cell phones are not compatible with USA towers. Just curious.

It does appear that Amazon still uses a cell carrier in the US. I wonder which one.

Good deal because LTE kids. Can download a book without WiFi, unlike regular US version. Think airplane, kids in the back seat, camping, etc.

The 2018 version isn't listed on Amazons website as supported anymore: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/cu...SB5YM9BYF7

2019 will receive updates until 2026.

Had the original one years ago and was always the best one to read from. Thanks OP, in for this.

Thanks OP! Decided to pull the trigger on this as it seems to be a significant upgrade from my 7th gen wifi paperwhite with only 4GB and no waterproofing. Not that I do much reading around water, but like the idea of being able to if I wanted. LMAO
