I never figured you for a pothead. Maybe one of these days we can share a joint and talk about the good old days at CVS lol.
Not pothead, really. More like a casual participant way back in the day.

A couple of things. If you're a former smoker, smoking pot can get you back on cigarettes. I smoked in high school and when I came to my senses and gave up cigarettes I had to give up smoking pot, too. It sucked because I really enjoyed smoking pot just as long as I didn't smoke too much of it. Then I just sat there like a vegetable all night. Smoking pot definitely reduces your willpower so it would be a bad thing to do on a diet or if you're trying to eat healthy. It wouldn't be good for someone like me because I'm pretty sure that marijuana is bad for your heart (correct me if I'm wrong). One of the biggest problems with smoking pot is that you're not always sure what you're getting. You're at a party and somebody passes you a joint and you take a hit and realize this isn't marijuana. I've often wanted to start smoking pot again but I never have. It's probably a good thing but I'm not anti-marijuana in any way. I don't think that it's a gateway drug to heroin or anything like that. Smoking pot is a lot of fun. I've never needed anything more than that.
I agree that pot reduces your self control. I would probably hesitate to casually smoke pot in a social setting like I once did, due to the other things they mix in these days.

I appreciate that I grew up in what I think was a much simpler time.

For cannabinoids the method of ingestion matters greatly. Inhaling means it will hit you faster and possibly harder but will subside much quicker. That is not a good method of ingestion for pain management. Edibles are much better in how it hits the system.

Additionally, you can absolutely get lower dose edibles. Reputable companies will recommend you start low and slow. By dividing up a gummy and waiting at least 2-3 hours before taking a second dose. Anyone that's telling people not to split isnt a well made gummy.
The people I know who currently use edibles for pain management have said the edibles don't hit you quick enough, which has led them to take more sooner than recommended. Once the 'help' arrives at a level they can feel it, they admit they've taken more than they should have. At least a few say they end up out of commission for a day or more. I'm sure there are better ways to do it than they are doing it though.

I am glad I don't have the kind of pain that would lead me to consider it right now, and my heart goes out to those who do have that kind of pain.

Do you know why your potassium is so low; is it from a medication?

Lyrica is the med my brother took that gave him hallucinations. My sister in law told me it was awful,

I do have some pain every day, and while I wish it wasn't so, I've learned to live with it. It gets severe at times while other times it's just the regular consistency of it that becomes tiring. Especially when i don't get good sleep. I'm lucky to get more than an hour at a time before I have to get up from laying or sitting down to move around some.
Sorry, I missed this post. I don't know why and my doctors don't seem to care. I take Lasix but in the smallest dose. I don't think that it's the reason. Sometimes I get sick due to stomach issues and throw up but it's not that often. I had my big heart attack when I got super sick and threw up. That's why I thought that I had acid reflux instead of a major heart attack.

Did he really have hallucinations? I always describe it as what I think that a bad LSD trip would be like. It is awful but it does work for the pain. I wouldn't take it unless your pain was a 10. Anything less and Lyrica is worse.

That's awful. Lasix makes me get up every hour but I can always stop it. I feel really bad for you. My insomnia is weird. I almost get to sleep and then I have these horrible hallucinations and then I can't get to sleep for the rest of the night. I think that it's from the fentanyl they gave me when I broke my hip. I broke my hip as bad as you can break it. They gave me fentanyl and I had a very bad trip. One hallucination was that I was standing up peeing all over the walls. Another hallucination is that I opened the window and was walking on air (I was on the top floor of a tall building). I believed the hallucinations to be real even though they were impossible. There was no distinction between being awake and a dream. I still believe that they are real to this day. Fentanyl is evil. Btw I've never told anybody about this. It's too personal and too traumatic.

That was what I was. I never went out and bought it and I would always do it in a social setting. I've never smoked a joint all by myself. I'm like that with alcohol. I'll drink if I'm with friends and not driving but I'd never go home and open up a beer.

Do they still do that? Angel dust was a big fear. I took a hit of that once due to a joint being passed around that I thought was just pot. I can't tell you how pissed off I was. I smoked some pot laced with opium once. If you think that hash makes your chest expand, it's nothing compared to opium. You can lay on the ground and not move for a day and be perfectly content when you're on opium. It was another thing that I didn't know I was smoking but I wasn't upset about it like I was with angel dust. I was with friends and since I had already taken a hit I figured that I might as well enjoy myself. It was a one-time experience. I had no desire to ever smoke it again.

I think the mix ins are way worse these days then they were back in the day. I was lucky to never get a mix in, but I also didn't just randomly smoke in a social setting.

It wasn't the smartest thing to do but with the Viet Nam War going on smoking a joint at a party wasn't that big of deal. I remember in jr high that my history teacher said that Viet Nam was going to change the world and I'm like what's Viet Nam? My government teacher in high school said that Watergate would be a big deal, too. I said that Burger Chef was going to be bigger than McDonald's. Well, 2 out of 3 were right.

How do you find a reputable smoke shop? The ones I see are all in strip malls and not where I'd go looking for medical advice although an Ouija board could do better than my current doctors. I'm actually a skilled surgeon. I've spent many years playing the Operation board game...while smoking pot, of course.
You research it.

Edibles wont hit you quickly, anyone that has researched them should know this. I'd rarely consider taking a prescribed medicine that I havent researched, let alone something that wasnt dispensed by a professional. If you took other medicines at higher than prescribed rates you also might have undesired reactions so it isnt surprising that they didnt like the results after overmedicating.

Anyone considering this should do their own research and start very low and very slow. Also look at the differences between hemp based and MJ based.

But after researching the first store you might not make it to the second store lol. The serious answer is that you shouldn't use marijuana if you have a heart condition. Also, if you enjoyed marijuana in your youth and are thinking about trying it many years later you might have a completely different reaction to it for a number of reasons. The obvious one is that your body is a lot different now. Any drug you take can have serious consequences that you can't predict even when your doctor says that it's ok to take it. You have to be your own advocate and decide what's best for you. Maybe taking something that will make you feel better is worth the risks. I totally get it. I'm getting to that point myself.

I agree, great advice.

What's sad is at least one of the people who I know took more because it wasn't hitting fast enough is normally smarter than that, and I thought she knew better. But then, reading responses to her posts shows it happens all too much. Or maybe in her case, other friends of hers were trying to help her downplay her mistake.

If Snoop Dog doesn't like edibles that's all of the research that I need to do. Why would you eat something that you don't know how high it's going to get you and can take 8 hours to wear off?

Because it may help do what you are hoping it does? Imho, before eating anything - food, medication, vitamins, liquids, etc. - folks don't really know how something is going to affect them and how long a possible negative effect is going to last. So if you ever put anything into your body that you haven't done so before (or even that you have), a risk is being taken.

True! Sometimes something you take for a long time can impact you without it being connected to the negative effect you're having. For example, if you ever have hives, try not taking ibuprofen and see if the hives go away.

It's also true that an allergy or sensitivity can come on suddenly even after ingesting a product for years without problems. Many years ago I took a mom and kids cooking class at a community college. One day, the instructor, after many years of showing a recipe with shrimp, suddenly went into anaphylactic shock when eating it. It was quite severe and 911 was called. She had no previous problems with shrimp or any shell fish.

I'm a perfect example of that. My day has been a horror story because of my potassium pills. I took them to feel better but they gave me severe chest pain instead. Now I'm in a Catch-22. I'm screwed whatever I do.

I've decided to quit couponing. I was in the hospital 2 weeks ago for hypokalemia (low potassium) and I had more problems yesterday. I fainted in the shower and busted open my elbow on the fall and then my feet went to sleep when I was I driving on the freeway. I couldn't feel the gas or brake pedals. I don't think that couponing caused any of this to happen but the stress of nothing working right sure hasn't helped. My doctor wants me to go back into the hospital today but obviously I didn't do that. It'll be 3 days of sitting in bed and leaving worse than when I came in. No thanks. Even though I won't be couponing, I'll still be on here to annoy everybody lol. If at some point I feel that it's safe to drive and if the couponing deals get better, then maybe I'll get back into it but for now I have to stop. Wishing everybody the best!
I wanted to ask you if you've ever considered getting a stool or bench for in the shower. It could help if/when fainting - you wouldn't fall as far or maybe not at all if you get a bench with side bars on it. I used to use one occasionally but now do so everyday to prevent falls in the shower.
