That said, it's still wiser to buy the cards on Target.com than in the store. If you purchase them in store, it's best to redeem them right away. There have certainly been lots of reports of stolen codes on those items.
I bought 20 gift cards last Thanksgiving at the store totaling $2000. I went home to redeem them and apparently they were already redeemed. I was lucky. I took them back to Target store and told them what happened. Store manager came in and she gave approval to the clerks to refund me all of my $2000.
I was lucky that I had an understanding store manager. But I heard some weren't as lucky.
Stay away from the stores and buy them online from Target.com
