that's different, but no one is stealing an e gift card unless they physically get access to it
There is nothing physical about an e-gift card. It's in your email inbox (or spam folder lol). All it takes is someone to gain access to your email account...

exactly but they aren't just guessing numbers as people are implying. they have to get access to your email in order to see them.

impossible for e-gift cards to be stolen
I don't know how but someone did end up getting access to and draining the HAPPY giftcards that I bought from Target, they also ended up draining the $5 promo target giftcard as well a few weeks later..

My email is secured and I don't think my computer or browser is compromised because it only happened to one of the two gift cards I bought.

I'm wondering if somehow the giftcard I purchased was also sent to someone else as a result of a glitch on targets systems or there might have been something on the giftcards.com side which enabled the person who drained the giftcards to fetch the information..

So if your email is hacked or someone got into it, then you lose your gift card balance right? The other thing is would there be a way to find out who used it? Such as what they purchased with it if they did? So anyone that could get into someone's email and find an egift card through someone's email could use it freely? So someone like that can't be caught because the owner can't report it because there is no details to give right?

What can I do to better secure my email? I'm currently using a Paid ProtonMail account with 2FA enabled via a physical yubikey.

It happened to me last year. Its almost like someone knew my account had e-gift card which I added to my target wallet just a couple of days ago and boom, someone went to the store and used the $300 dollars I was going to use. Target support was useless when I complained, said how can I purchase in person in Bronx when I live on the other coast. Of course, they didn't help and said to file a police report so they can look at surveillance video, etc. and I'm like where in the world do I file the police report. CA or Bronx and $300 wasn't much to keep on fighting.

But yeah, since then I've added two factor authentication, just know anything and everything can be stolen sadly.

were you re-using passwords between websites?
do you use sketchy browser extensions?

Nothing that sort at all. No extensions and no password. My biggest gripe about all this was shouldn't someone instore check if my target wallet matched my ID like they sometimes do for high purchase with credit card. Total fail on targets part and they weren't open to feedback. Also, someone just knew that my wallet has a gift card as this thief went within a couple of days after I redeemed my gift card. Very shady. There are few instances like these (saw people on Twitter/reddit complain about it)
