just so you know ATT policy is not prorated so if it passes 3 days you still have to pay the full month + activation fees.

Be careful with cancelation before you receive the phone. It still need to confirm but i bet all the phone ship to us is flex policy so it need to activate on US cellular network.

Hopefully the eSim swap work, let us know how it turn out. When do you suppose to receive your phone ?
Crap, I thought ATT had two cancellation points, the 3 day - which is unfair because the phone does not arrive within 3 days, and 14 days in which the activation fee was charged but the month was prorated. Guessing this is not correct.

Not sure what to do. This is much trickier than going the Verizon route.

Just for anyone who is curious about eSim. I use my old inactive ATT sim card, put it in my iPhone 13 and there is no option to convert from Physical Sim card to eSim. So in theory, if you are thinking about buying an iPhone on VZ and trying to use an inactive ATT sim trick to unlock will not work since there is no inactive eSim.
Your best option is borrow your friend ATT eSim

for ATT, it start from the day you activate the phone. couple weeks ago when i try on Iphoen 13. I bought on Nov 8. received on Nov 13 and still within 3 days of cancelation. the CS rep told me it starts from the time you activate the phone. But some people told me it start from the day they ship you the phone. Probably because the phone is now using eSim so they may active before ship it to you. but again, ATT customer service is notorious for giving false information.i talk to around 15 CS rep and each one give me a different answer and even manager doesnt know there oilicy well enough, thats why some of the rep doesnt know and end up bending the rule.

Are you on IOS 15.x, I think if you upgrade to IOS 17 it gives you more eSim transfer capabilities. I am not sure but I think so.

i am on the newest iOS 17. the physical sim I tried to convert to esim is inactive cause i canceled the line with ATT. i have to borrow another active sim card to try out but i dont know if it will end up destroying that physical sim card.

So if I somewhat go with original plan. Ordered phone on Wednesday. Phone ships on Thursday. Saturday would then be day 2 anyway if it counts from day ship, and Sunday would be day 3. Try sim swap right away when I get phone and immediately port out. Not sure if I can port on weekend to Metro (T-Mobile) but can try.

My other alternative is to just suck up the first month. I'm on the $60 value plan. I can try to get the fee waived with AARP - and then hopefully get the $75 offer back from Chase if they count the device payment triggers the first payment of the offer.

For some reason my account already has a usage meter , and says 2 days left (see attachment)

Same thing happened to me. I tried 3 times and I cancelled instantly. Talked to CS and they said it was because the name and address it was being send to (the primary name/address that wasn't me or my address) is new to my Walmart account so it won't work. They needed to escalate my issue to remove the block and said it would take 5-24 hours to get removed.

After 5 hours I tried again and it's went through. No cancellation yet and it's been 20 hours now at this point. Luckily it hasn't been sold out or high in demand to the point of door buster style. I'm Verizon with upgrade if that helps.
planning to trade in as well ? I want to jump in by upgrading my vz lines but need to trade in. Not getting any help if we can tradein as well in this deal.

If your phone ships it on Thursday then you are still within 3 days of cancellation on Saturday.

MyATT portal will show the new line the moment it shipped, but it could mean the time starting for you already, or i could be whenever you first activate the phone. it is similar on my case when i did it a couple weeks ago.

Do you have any other line on that account? the 2 days count down there mean your bill is 2 day aways from finish it cycle and generating a bill for this month.

Just paid off device. The pending charge is showing as ATT Bill Payment. So it should count as 1 of the 2 charges needed to qualify for the Chase offer of $75 back, so by sucking up the first month payment if I get $75 back it might not net to that much.

How long do you have to activate the new phone?
Walmart will only allow the phone to be shipped to the address the account is under "which is not my address." Can I in theory buy this and in a couple weeks activate it without any issues?
Does the cell plan have to be upgraded in anyway to get this deal?

So ATT system will consider your line activated the moment you pay off the phone. It happened to me on the previous deal as well. So your clock is starting today, Saturday is your last day to cancel to avoid all the fees.

Be careful about the cancellation. If you cancel the line before requesting the unlock, your phone will stuck in limbo. Which is whenever you request unlock it will show : Because you canceled your service less than 14 days after you bought your device, we can't unlock it. pretty much the system detects that you canceled the line, so the IMEI is removed from the network. So system won't approve the unlock request even you pay off the phone. The reason is because when they ship you the phone, ATT reserved a phone number for that IMEI. so the moment you cancel the line, IMEI is removed from ATT database. system detects as you return the phone, it will remove that IMEI and the number and reserve it for the next customer to activate it. the only way to unlock is to reactive that phone number assign to the IMEI, or ATT rep manual add your IMEI to a new phone number and that mean activation fees ($35).

for the 2 days count down, i have no idea.

That will need to be tested out. so far there is no way to convert inactive physical sim card to eSim so people who think about buying VZ phone and try to register the phone under ATT to request unlock will not work.

The moment you borrow your friend eSim to activate the phone, the system now show your IMEI active under your friend number. So request unlock will have to be submitted under your friend as ATT MEMBER. Or move the eSIm back to your friend's phone and ensure the system now show his IMEI then you can try to submit the unlock request as NON-ATT MEMBER. the goal is to ensure your IMEI is not associated with any account.

The 60 days requirement is only apply for new account, due to the number is actived less than 60 days. if your phone is paid off and under a number that is older than 60 days the request will get approved.

Can't I transfer esim to another phone and then request unlock, then cancel?

Also I would think Sunday is three days from today
