The relatively slow latency (CL22) and "pro" moniker are because this RAM is JEDEC compliant at 3200mhz. So while this might not look as fast as other 3200mhz XMP RAM, that because most 3200mhz RAM achieves it's speed by overclocking (yes, XMP is technically an overclock), and many pre-built and professional systems may not even provide a bios option to enable that speed. On those systems that "faster" XMP RAM will get stuck at whatever the default JEDEC values are, usually something like 2400mhz.

So if you've built your own gaming system, this is probably not the RAM for you, but if you have an OEM/pre-built PC that doesn't have RAM speed tuning options in the BIOS, then this is just what you're looking for.

rank and configuration = 2Rx8 or 1Rx8

People sometimes get confused by the single or dual rank thing, when you see the 2Rx8 the most important part to pay attention to is the x8 part. X8 means it's good. If you see an X16, then it's downgraded and lesser. That memory can be upto 20% slower despite being the same speed.

Computer noob… would this work on this computer which can have ram upgraded or should I get ddr5? Any direction is much appreciated. Gift for my son this Christmas.

Not compatible. DDR5 and DDR4 are not swappable. Also desktop and laptop rams are not the same physical size.

I agree. My old 3200 mhz rams that I used as 3200 on my main machine work as slow as 2133 mhz on the prebuilt dell that I moved them to because of this

Thank you for being so kind to respond. So maybe something like this would be more appropriate? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...X0DER&th=1 Thanks again.

How much of a difference does CAS latency 22 of this RAM compare to RAM of this same spec, but w/ CAS latency 16 (CL16) instead?

Not even noticeable outside of benchmarks on an Intel build. Probably noticable on a high end Ryzen build.

I was about to ask how far down we'll see 2x32GB, then I got my answer on the sidebar:

Like booboloo said, use the crucial website and check your motherboard's compatibility.

That said, you probably need unbuffered (these are unbuffered).

6600 uses DDR4 memory. It should work. It probably won't run 3200, but it should work.

If you are nervous about it, you could always run through Crucial upgrade advisor:

Memory did not work in my set up. laugh out loud

I would somewhat disagree. Having higher capacity but slow RAM is better than having low capacity but fast RAM, especially if you're doing productivity work such as photo and video editing. I currently have 16GB RAM 15CL and Lightroom used all of it. I think I'd be better off with 32-64GB and slow RAM. Maybe even stick to 3000MTs 15CL which is a good response time.
