In case you are looking at this as a solution for streaming games from your desktop to another room, please be aware that GeForce Experience and Nvidia no longer support GameStream.

Sunshine and Moonlight are the server-client pair of apps you will want to use to do any LAN game streaming. They are relatively easy to set up, but it's something you should know about before purchasing if you intend to use this as a game streaming device.

Moonlight: https://github.com/moonlight-stream/moonlight-qt
GameStream sunset announcement: https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/a...tification

As for performance, I have not had any issues at all with this model of Shield. I used it to replace the smart features on a 2016 Samsung TV that was getting progressively more annoying and losing support for applications like Twitch.
Isn't this like 6 years old?
I was a diehard Shield user. I switched to the Apple 4k. Did obsessive side by sides. In my experience, the apple has better color and picture quailty. Nothing is perfect as the sound quailty on the shield is better than apples 4k. I only stream no gaming.

I'd just like to get a GoogleTV/AndroidTV box that has IR remote capability. What are decent options?

All(most?) GoogleTV boxes have bluetooth only and it's a pain not to have it in my universal Logitech Remote..

Sometimes the future isn't as good as the simple past. Good AV systems NEED IR remote ability.

Question for those who have this and the modern LG OLEDs....for just streaming from Netflix, max, Hulu etc, does the Shield provide any advantages in picture or sound compared to the native TV apps?
My shield Pro 2019 is faster than the native apps on my 2021 LG C1 77". That's why I just use my shield over the native apps.

It's not a user issue. It's an 8 year old hardware and 3 years out of date software issue. Freshly repasted, factory reset, connected to a 1.2Gb internet connection via Ethernet. Nothing but stutters and sync issues. Set at 60Hz, video stutters, but audio is in sync. Set to 24/30Hz, Video looks great, but audio is out of sync.

It should not require tweaking, adjusting of settings, or ANY effort to play video smoothly and in sync with audio.
It definitely sounds like user error (if you're issues are on Plex primarily). This is universally considered one of the best and most compatible Plex clients out there. I've tested multiple different clients from PS5, Xbox Series X to Rokus, Google TV, Apple TV, only the NVIDIA Shield Pro has been able to handle everything that I've thrown at it including 4K HDR Dolby Vision content which is key for me. Sounds like somehow your video is getting transcoded and your Plex server is unable to keep up with the transcoding. The NVIDIA Shield should be able to directly play almost all content from my experience.

Unless you're using the NVIDIA Shield Pro as the Plex server itself, then that's a different story. I run my Plex server off of my Synology NAS and use my NVIDIA Shield Pro as a TV client only connected to my LG 77" C1.

Every time this gets posted, you get all the haters chiming in who don't even have one lol.

Yes it's old
Yes it's still the best streaming device
Yes we all want an update
Yes you should buy it

I run all streaming services and Plex on this with no issues. I even stream from my pc for gaming. It works great with home theaters too.

what can this do that my amazon firstick 4k max cant?
this is slick deal which means, best for value. so a max is 1/3 the price and provides the same viewing content.

Can't answer you since I am in the same boat. I have the shield but often just use the LG apps.
What China streaming apps are you thinking of?
Just any app can stream china, hk, malaysia, singapore, japan, taiwan... live channels. My current chromecast very bad supports on these apk. I have one zidoo z9s but its dated and bad support to western streaming apps like netflix and disney+.

Why they can't throw in the 50 cent stand that they always show in the picture, and then ask $20 for it later when you decide you want one?

I have 2 3D printed stands from ebay. They are okay, and cheap.

I've thought about getting one. I have a Google TV which works fine but I feel it's slow. I also think it does audio formats that Google TV can't. I feel like the shield should be much cheaper though because of its age. What does the home page look like on the shield?

This isn't worth it.

If you need a plex box, get a NUC.

If you need a streaming stick, get a newer streamer that supports the newer Dolby Vision profiles. Fire Stick if you want to sideload stuff.

It's not. It's missing some of the newer codecs, which are available on much cheaper streamers.

I think SD'ers are the reason that Nvidia is not upgrading the shield and keep making it and selling it at 170$ Smilie
Will not hesitate to buy at MSRP if there is no quirks or fundamental flaws in the next GEN model, knowing that it holds off to its value

So it's a better idea to use my synology nas as the Plex server and play it from the shield rather than have the shield act as both the server and the player?

I wanted to get a shield but it's getting older and older. With how the price keeps being the same, things that were possible and available feature wise have been reduced. Nvidia doesn't seem to care I'm guessing. I'll just keep on waiting since it's not a serious thing for me. I was looking at the apple side but it's not my style.
