Go with Samsung 990 Pro if you intend to encrypt your drive with Windows BitLocker as it supports hardware encryption, SN850X does not:

Samsung just had the 4tb 990 pro for $199 w/EPP and even lower with chase 20% cashback applied.

Is it possible to heatsink this if you're putting it into a PS5? I looks like there is no direct contact to the modules for heat dissipation.
Supposedly, the label is considered a thermal pad. You put the heatsink right on top of it.

So why go with this over the Crucial 4TB for $179? Says 7500mb/s vs 5000mb/s but I don't see how that's going to make any real world difference when gaming.

Is this the one that is actually faster than the higher labeled one because of either a naming convention issue or some technical reason? I know one of these is known to work better than the pro version, or whatever the equivalent is, for some reason.

No, they are both top tier for gen 4. Obviously $180 is sweeter compared to $230.

Crucial SSD is always the last choice. I don't trust its reliability. All of my Crucial (2) is dead.

WD is much more reliable than Crucial

What is the difference between the Samsung 990 Pro and the WD in performance?
990 pro is faster in productivity and can be encrypted, but the WD is faster in game loading, game asset loading, etc. I am using mine for gaming and so don't care about encryption (because that would slow things down and I don't need to encrypt for non-critical gaming data). Most users would never notice a difference between these drives in real world usage.

Yes I got one for $160 after the AAA and Chase card cash back. Sweet deal.

8 TBs will be rolling out more frequently in the near future. Be ready to see them at this price in a couple or three years. blows my mind just to think that will be the next norm.
I remember buying an SN850 non x 1TB for $230 and that was a good price. Just bought several 2TB for under $100 as I couldn't pass them up.

I just wonder if it's any less reliable than the no-name NVME that came in my 2022 G14.

I know I don't care about the speed, personally. Just wonder if it's really $50 more reliable.
