I think if you're looking at this monitor you already know what you'd use it for, but if not, just know that for running relatively newer games it's probably not ideal as it essentially requires an RTX 4090 and even that can choke on this (again, relatively newer games and at higher graphics settings). I would recommend scoping out what games you want to play and see if it makes sense for you.

The resolution is 7680x2160 "Dual 4K UHD" so it is essentially pumping out 16,588,800 pixels compared to standard 4K (3840x2160) with 8,294,400 pixels. So about a 2x performance demand on your graphics card over 4K.

The refresh rate of 240Hz as well causes some headaches depending on the GPU used. Nvidia (as of right now) does not even support [tomshardware.com] 240Hz at this resolution with their graphics cards, while AMD does. This is a bit of a quandary as the 4090 is the better GPU on average.

Productivity wise it's a great monitor with massive real estate to utilize. Spreadsheets, programming, documents...etc.

Lastly, Samsung unfortunately still maintains a higher rate of QC issues with their newest tech, so I'd highly recommend price matching this at a retail store like Microcenter or Best Buy if possible along with one of their aftermarket warranties if desired.

This monitor is like the huge steak you order when you're super hungry. You think you can eat it all, only to realize it's too big for you. 🤣
In all seriousness, outside of a few issues, such as unable to wake from sleep, back panel peeling off from the massive size, and unable to play games because all the mini maps and info panels are so far off to the side of the screen, the only graphics card in existence that can show 240hz is the Radeon 7900 xtx with its DP 2.1 spec. Even RTX 4090 can only display 120hz.

Nice find at this price, OP. I will caution people that there have been a lot of QC issues with this monitor. For anyone worried about this, it might be worth trying to get BB to price match in case you need to return/exchange it. Samsung's RMA process is notoriously shit.

The Ui issues are a problem but "Unable to play games because all of the info panelts are too off to the side" is not accurate at all, you can fix this with mods, Flawless Widescreen etc. And it's not problem with 100% of games, with the new Cyberpunk 2077 update for example you can set the HUD to the center of the screen.

This is a major pain the ass yes, but to say that you cant play games with this monitor is completely inaccurate.

Do you have to rotate the head a lot for such a wide monitor? I am afraid that I will have neck pain

I own this monitor, but its firmware has a few glitches. For instance, every few days, the three presets fail to work, requiring a power-off and restart to correctly load the preset settings. While the display is satisfactory for gaming, its height is insufficient to provide a wide field of view. I don't have any actively played games that fully utilize the entire width, resulting in black stripes on the sides. Unfortunately, the monitor falls short for reading documents, my primary concern. Its performance in this regard is notably inferior to the DELL 27-inch 2K UltraSharp monitors. Consequently, I have to set the DELL monitors aside when I need to read documents.

I'll wait till it's under $1K. I think it's high time to increase the height of the monitor, may be at least by an inch.

Looking for a sweet ultra wide, this is awesome but seems a bit overkill for my 4070ti.

More than likely yes. 49" oled was too big for fps pc gaming.

Not for me. Have the 49 non-OLED Odyssey for the last 2 years, absolutely LOVE gaming on it, couldn't go back to anything less.

I find that for FPS games, I'm mainly looking at the middle. The large FOV is just lovely eye-candy.

Sometimes in older games that aren't designed with ultrawide in mind, I've heard that things like in-game maps can be a little far off to the sides. I typically paly 3-5 year-old AAA titles, and haven't had that issue.

For open-world type games (RDR2, GTAV, Flight-Sim), it's truly amazing.

I believe the older models have a more aggressive curve.

It's nonsense about the 4090 120hz but to be fair, nothing is running well at 4K x 2 and 120hz+

I have the original G9 and fear my 4090 will have issues pushing this monster.

I would also like to connect 4 computers - how does this work exactly, and what is the kvm like? Right now I use 2 4k monitors with a dual HDMI + USB 4k 4 pc kvm switch that works pretty well. I just hit Ctrl Ctrl 1-4 Enter to switch to a PC and my monitors and USB peripherals come with me. If this provides similar functionality I'd be very interested. Thanks!
They only gave me one USB cable so I haven't been using the KVM part too much. I think calling it a KVM might go a bit far. Bascially I can display any 2 of the 4 connections at a time, and choose sound from one of them. You can split them 30/70, 50/50, or 70/30. You can also set which connection you would like to be your sound source (assuming your using the headphone jack for stereo sound this works fine).

For KVM I'm just using multiplicity (not sure if this works on linux, my guess is you may need something else), you can share mouse, keyboard, sound, (sound has some issues sometimes) and even display over ethernet. So if I have 2 computers displayed side by side I can move the mouse across like they are the same computer, completly seamless, copy pasten from one to the other etc. The way it works is you just move the mouse over to the computer you want to use, no commands needed. This is ideal if your splitting the screen. For full screen you can use a shortcut to switch controls, or just drag the mouse, but you would need to press some buttons on the monitor to switch the display properly. Most of the time I am using split screen durring work hours.

I have tried a couple other apps but they had problems unlocking my work PC where I am limited from configuring it to not need a ctrl-alt-delete to get to the login screen.
I also tried PowerToys for a software kvm but it failed to send ctrl-alt-delete so I had to go back to using multiplicity.

It's great because the seamless screen and no shortcuts needed to drive 2 computers at once with a keyboard and mouse. You can even copy and paste from one to the other etc.

If your thing is switching displays over at full screen then a KVM like you have might be more ideal, but it would need to be able to display quite the resolution.

It has an agressive curve to prevent this, but yes I have to move my head a bit. I'm moving my neck allot more right now though, with 4 displays on my desk while I wait for replacement.... I miss it so much already.

can you explain the pre-sets I don't have this screen in front of me right now. I remember the 49" having them, but not the 57".

The hieght is a standard 4k, 2160 resolution which I found much better than the dual 2k 1440 screen 49" version (for productivity). In fact that is part of the reason I switch to the 57" I don't know of any other screens that go higher without being rotated? For me text is super clear and crisp on this display.
