Would definitely get this if this had USB-C charging. Just that e-waste from big charging bricks.

my dell with a 10th gen intel does not specifically say it can charge usbc and came with a normal dell brick
but it will charge when i plug in a usbc and the symbol next to is is only the dp logo.
hard to believe this wont do the same thing, but i dont have any proof
this is a great price for a 12th gen but ive grown to accustomed to touch screens in my laptops

The one I got today uses a single stick of 8GB Samsung 1Rx16. Unfortunately, this appears to be an OEM spec'd Samsung part and I couldn't find any retail equivalent. What appears to be used pulled parts of the same on Amazon appear to go for nearly the same price as a new retail 16GB kit (two 8GB sticks). Since there's always caution in used computer chips itself, plus it may not be a totally matching set I just went with a retail kit to ensure dual channel mode works properly.

It seems like same configuration with 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive instead is $20 more ($279.99 before coupons)

I'm so out of the loop on computers. Reading these threads is like another language with all these technology terms. I've bought 2 laptops and a desktop in the last few years and something always goes wrong with them. I just want a simple computer that will play roblox for my son that will not mess up.

Just got this laptop today. But upon setting it up, I noticed that it uses 75% RAM on idle. I haven't even installed any of my apps yet! Is this normal?
consumers should always do a full reformat of windows when you buy prebuilt... always. there's always bloatware on windows machines. a clean install is so brain-dead easy there is 0 reason not to do it. i'm sure a clean install will render the ram usage to 30% or lower

Don't buy this one unless you're prepared to repair (immediately) or replace (eventually) the hinges, because they bind and then they break. And Dell won't help you out on that when (not if) it happens. The design of the 15" Inspiron is timeles - if you want to work on it you CAN turn this thing into a beast (it's got as much room under the hood as a '57 Chevy), but chassis build is more like '72 Ford and Dell refuses to do anything about it.

Best build quality for the buck today is probably the 16" Lenovo 2 in 1 that's on sale at BB for $550 at the moment. But it's also a heavy monster that you can't use outside in the daylight and can't expand the RAM cause it welded in. And $550 is a bit much for a Roblox machine.

But unless you want to be put in a position to buy yet another laptop in the coming year, this is probably not the one you want.

Worth the additional $20 for 512GB?

The hinges can be easily adjusted to prevent the damage you describe.

Pretty sure it's probably doing Windows update - Windows will always do it in the background when you are setting up a new laptop/desktop which consumes a lot of resources. Once the update is completed, 8GB RAM is more than enough for office or home entertaining use.

Define "goes wrong".

The Dell Latitudes and Lenovo Thinkpads and HP Elitebooks are the ones corporate America buys.
Notice that those models are not normally posted here on Slickdeals.

I haven't had a pc for a long time. Do you still have to reinstall all the drivers when you format.

Any good imaging software you'd recommend to make a copy of the laptop in a clean state

You meant this one. https://www.staples.com/hp-15-6-l...t_24572528

Same CPU, RAM and SSD. Not sure if the HP allows adding more RAM but this Dell can. If you have the Amex offer, this Dell is cheaper by $40. Staples would be easier to return the HP if you don't like it though.
you can add ram to both. they both have great cpu and a half ok screen. after that, everything else is shit!

i wouldve rather they include a i5-1165G7 cpu instead but give use a full feature usbc-c port, hdmi 2.0, backlit keys while keeping the two slot ram. That wouldve benn much better.. But i guess thats too much to ask?
