Suicide is definitely one of the many, many things you can filter. The beauty of VidAngel is that you get to tailor your movie or TV experience to exactly what fits you. If you only care about a suicide, a single gory death or a sex act, you can go into the app and remove it. Every instance of every category (Language, Violence, Sex, Drugs, Other) is noted often with some sort of description.

For example:
The first episode of Breaking Bad has a total of 133 filters that can be applied. If you would use all 133 you could bring that episode down to a G-rating. But most that use the app are probably not going to that extreme. Rather, if you pull up the Language portion you have a total of 85 events that you could filter. There are 54 curse words (and each curse word is listed in a subcategory), 4 racial slurs, 5 sexual references, etc. So if I wanted to remove all F-words and all racial slurs only, I could. If I wanted to remove only 3 of the 11 F-words and keep the other 8 in the program, I could.

The experience is really whatever you want it to be. Hence their catchphrase: "Watch however the bleep you want!"
I have been a subscriber for several years. There were a lot of technical issues early on but they seem to have ironed those out now.
This precisely.

I've been a day one subscriber. It has been a fantastic experience! Like any software, it has improved over time. But I am immensely impressed with how this works. You have such flexibility to edit the content to exactly what you want. You can trim a single scene, a specific act or take a movie and end up with something resembling a G-rating (if you so desire).

Any thumbs downs are only because they are against filtering objectionable content. They believe it should be watched in its original form. It is not a reflection of how this software actually performs.

Hesitantly bumping this since the lack of comments is causing this great deal to get lost.

For the people doing thumbs down, can you let us know your experience so that we can be informed in deciding whether to purchase? Thanks

I seriously doubt anyone who has voted this down has even considered using a video content filtering service.

Some people believe that the director's vision should never be altered and that films must be watched as originally released or not at all. I'm kind of curious how such people feel about each of these edits [movieweb.com].

It's a great service, been using it for years. Only caveat is it filters other services so you have to be subscribed to those other services as well (Netflix, Amazon prime, Apple TV, etc. ) doesn't do Max.
It's great when we want to watch an old movie with the kids that has a lot more language than I remembered. Home Alone for example has a lot more bad language than I want my young kids exposed to. We love it!

They just added Peacock as a supported streaming service on Monday.

VidAngel is awesome. I've been using them since they first came out and have always supported their cause by maintaining an active subscription even though my kids are all grown up. Surprisingly, I still use it once in a while to watch shows with my wife that might be too raunchy.

I wasn't able to see a full list of their filterable content, does anyone know if "suicide" is one of the filterable things? Thanks.

I watched about 2 movies when the service started. Both are movies I have seen before unfiltered. In both movies, they cut out some really integral scenes. They also cut out scenes that were not in any way even PG 13. The glitchiness made it also difficult to watch. My kids said they would rather just not watch the movie at all then use that service.

Agreed. Sometimes, it can be choppy. But they've come a long way with the process. There are many times I didn't even know something was removed. But if you attempt to watch a movie like The Wolf of Wall Street, by removing the 562 F-words alone, the dialogue is going to become very choppy with some complete sentences just eliminated altogether!
