My guess is because $250 has been the standard sale price of late, so maybe ppl are expecting/ waiting for a better price point for a Black Friday sale?

Isn't this the last model with a 3.5mm headphone jack?

Biggest difference between this and last year's version?
Also no button and the camera is along the landscape side on the new one. That makes me want the new one as someone who would use it as a teleconferencing device. The 9th gen does have that motion effect that attempts to offset for being on the portrait side, but it's not super natural looking.

64 GB is too small.
Not if historically the most room you've ever needed was around 25 GB.

I ordered this from Amazon at $249, any chance they will credit me the difference without having to return/rebuy?

That's confusing. Is this deal a latest gen?

You could check at Apple.com and see all the differences yourself:

https://www.apple.com/ipad-select/

Biggest difference for me would be the bezels on the old model look like a tablet from 10 years ago (maybe because they are).

I'm sure others have pointed it out in other threads. $120 more (current sale prices) for the following changes - you decide if it's worth it.

+ better speakers
+ 1 gen newer processor
+ slightly (not very noticeable) larger but same kind of screen
+ usb-c
+ better cameras (and on the side)

Meh new design. Possibly harder to hold. I know people bemoan bezels but they do allow better ergonomics.

- headphone jack
- physical buttons (I haven't missed it on my iPhone 11 the past 2 years).

The $120 represents 52% price difference. The 9th Gen offer the best value for money, could still work perfectly in 3-5 years to come.

This is the base model. Gen 1 through 6 had 9.7" screens with bezels and over dimensions shrinking. Gen 7 forward went to 10.2" screens. The later Air versions and all Pro versions had larger screens of various sizes.

Absolutely possible. It's like the Corolla vs a luxury vehicle analogy. My 5th gen mini just got the latest update. Unless something changes dramatically with iPadOS, I see another 3 years of updates possible even with mine.
