To answer the common questions:

- Backlit chicklet keyboard
- Barrel connector charging
- Memory seems soldered in, but has 1 additional available slot

This chip is faster than the 12th gen i5, but slower than the 13th gen, while being better on power. I really wish this had USB C charging.

For a typical use daily driver, this is a heckuva deal for the price.

RAM: ASUS official page even says 1 available SDRAM slot. Maybe it's on the hidden side of the mainboard. I've come across that design a couple of times in the past.
HDMI: 1.4 is a bit disappointing, but if you're not light gaming, you won't hit this wall.
Weight: 3.7 lbs,... just a tad heavy, but not
Display: ...and 600 nits OLED?! <drool... .> on-battery duration will suffer but imho, well worth the trade-off.
Ports: 3.1 is insufferable if accustomed to 3.2 or faster. However, in my experience, substantial dependency on attached storage is not typical use.
CPU & Storage: both reasonably snappy. Combine with 16GB, you're good for 3+ years easy for typical use.
Charge Method: Imho, the barrel connector charge is just not that big of a liability given this price-for-performance. That's what we're accustomed to anyway.

All that said, I remain baffled: why so little love?

Damn oled screen and upgradable ram slot for $450 seems too good to be true, what's the catch?

Thank you very much! this is much appreciated! I tested the SSD and a new 1Tb SSD I purchased. I didn't get the fastest, instead I focused on trying to get the most power efficient and with a good price I could find which turned out to be the same Solidigm model already in the laptop (P41 plus). Both are gen 4 but upon testing their speeds are more in line with gen 3. Checking with HWinfo the program does confirm that they are running as gen3. Not that it makes much difference in my experience. I have in my desktop a WD black N770 (ryzen 5 5600) which is much faster but still feels about the same as the laptop in terms of opening programs and such. Perhaps only noticeable when copying large files.
I wonder if it's possible to reduce the brightness when running programs coded in DOS such as memtest? I tried using the program to test the ram but didn't want to let it runing continuously as required since the screen would remain in a largely static image for several hours and was concerned about burn in.
The brightness keys should still work in DOS. Do they not?

Just came to say that I recently bought a vivobook that came with 12gb (8 onboard, 4 in other slot). Everything I read, including ASUS said the max was 16gb. I recently added a 32gb card in the other slot and I'm now currently running 40gb total.
Bios recognize 32GB ram stick, but Windows won't boot. Any help will be appreciated 👍

I had heard people having issues with certain RAM brands like Crucial. I used Patriot in mine and worked for me.

Absolutely, 8gb was slowing me down, 16gb will have be definitely be ok without the need to upgrade. Now with 32gb+8gb onboard, I don't even notice any slowness when running virtualbox application. Thanks again.

I bought the additional 8 they offered at check out for $16. I'll get the 32 in a while when it gets a little cheaper. Probably would have gotten it at the time but didn't want to spend more.

Already blew through a bunch on G2 deal and HF trailer; after a sudden car service repair.

Gotta draw the line. Holidays got my itch to press buy now hard to stop.

Anybody else have issues with windows 11 melting down on this laptop?

I upgraded the memory to 16 shortly after purchasing it and don't know if that's the issue or if it's Windows. I'm using Air Parrot 3 🦜 to cast to Apple TV. That's the only software thing I can think of. Occasionally Windows freezes up as I move my mouse across the screen. Everything gets distorted and I have to hard reboot to fix the issue.

I've stopped using more than 2 split alternate image windows. Whatever they're called. I also try not to Alt Tab too much as that causes a hiccup it seems.

Everything is fine but the occasional Windows crash. All the fingerprints are annoying on the surfaces of everything on it.

Hi, i had the same stability issues, I noticed it would happen when connecting an external monitor to the laptop. Updating the drivers for my external monitor mitigated the issue but it never fully went away. I tried at the time to upgrade the graphics drivers to the official drivers from the AMD website but that caused other type of issues with the volume and some of the key controls. Finally after all this time I fully found the fix. I tried downloading the official AMD graphics drivers from their website and now it works perfectly, no more occasional stuttering. Another thing I found that helped is that the power for whatever reason was set from factory as "power saving" in control panel (not the classical control panel, the new control panel in settings, the one that looks like a phone OS control panel). Since I didn't check in that control panel, only the classical I never knew until now that it was set as "power saving", now set to "balanced". After this two changes now everything works perfect
