Nothing in life is certain, except for death, taxes and a Plex lifetime pass deal
I have had a Plex lifetime pass for over 15 years. I think I paid around $80 back then for it, so this seems like a good price. Worth every penny. I run Plex on a Synology server with 8 drives. If you use Apple products, I highly recommend the Infuse player. It is far superior to the Plex player in many ways.

I have JellyFin running, but it's nowhere near as refined as Plex. I have not run Emby, but I have heard it is not as good as Plex, but there are fanboys of all these apps.

Plex has just been around way longer and has had time to refine their software and add advanced features.
What does Plex do? Why do I need it

Same question. The only thing I see is if you want to store a large media library on a NAS unit or something and have software to manage it and view it in one place. The rest of the features appear to be something you can get for free in other places. I say this is somebody who doesn't know much about the product but keeps getting their deals in my email, but can't justify making the purchase. I could easily be missing reasons why it's valuable, so I look forward to seeing people comments.

Value it brings over Kodi (for me)
1) Plexamp.... pretty great streaming music player
2) Transcoding so you can play media on bad internet connections and devices without native support for whatever codec.

But you have to bring your own media. (They also have a bunch of ad supported garbage trying to make money without piracy...)

Jellyfin is free and can do the same things.
Advantage of Plex over Jellyfin is that Plex operates a relay for people behind CGNAT who don't have real IP addresses... limited to low quality video

Funny I had the same issue with their website and many other things going on that day to try dealing with it multiple different ways.

I contacted them and this is their reply

"Our FUZZYFRIDAY discount code promotion offer was valid through 2023-11-28 07:59 UTC and is no longer available for use and we're unable to extend the offer, apologies. Looking at your [email protected] Plex account, I don't see any recent payment verification or transaction attempts either, sorry."

Instead of offering assistance to someone that had issues with the website the day of their sale, they would rather lose a new customer. I guess instead of getting $90 they are getting $0 from me.

Goes to show the quality of their customer service.
