I found a local used Dell Alienware Aurora R12 with 3080 and 11700F at $900. Not sure which one is a better deal.

You could build an equivalent system for around this price with quality components, for example: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xtmvbL $1087.82 but featuring:
i7-12700KF (unlocked variant of this CPU which allows for overclocking)
Upgraded CPU cooler
DDR-5
RTX 4070 which is on par with the 3080 but has DLSS 3.0 + Frame Generation while consuming less wattage
Significantly better case

Or just buy this system + the $55 case and swap over the components for about the same price. Swapping over a motherboard, gpu and power supply is a piece of cake compared to what it was like building PC's 10+ years ago.
Maybe a stupid question, but wouldn't you need to add windows 11 to the price as well?

If you are concerned about heat, just throw one of these on the bottom rear slot to cool it down. https://a.co/d/6GaiOia

I have not had to pay for windows with the last few computers I've built. I sign in with my usual windows credentials and it's automatically activated. I guess if you've never had an account on a windows computer you might want to pay for windows, but it's not necessary to activate windows either which you can install off a usb stick using the Windows media creation tool.

I and many othera purchased this during Covid and returned it. The biggest draw back for this PC is its case and lack of proper cooling. The thing would sound like a jet engine even with simple tasks. I first thought that maybe I got a lemon until I read about many other people having the same problem. If you buy this, plan for a better cooling solution.
I was one of those that purchased during Covid. Yes it was a loud bastard and ran hot. Would sit at 90 while gaming. Installed a be quiet! cpu cooler, replaced the one exhaust fan it had with a Noctua and this dropped it to like 80. Added top exhaust using magnetic mounts and two intake fans on front, barely hit over 70 now.

If you install a brand new windows OS on a new computer and just sign in with your windows account, it automatically activates it? So I can have multiple desktops with windows for free if I just have an account?

I guess I've been living under a rock.

Thanks for the info!

Only thing I'd add, as with most mentions of the KF series CPUs, is if the non F model is just a few more dollars, go ahead and get it. Unless you have GPUs laying around, it's worth the ~$10-15 for piece of mind.

I bought a similar but I think better deal.

It's on Amazon from a 3rd party, so I couldn't post to SD. But the title is:

ROG Strix GA35 RTX 3080 (~ 4070) Liquid Cooled Gaming PC (Ryzen 7, X570, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, WiFi 6, 750W Gold PSU, Keyboard & Mouse) - Best 2023 Prebuilt Gamer Desktop Computer Made_by_ASUS

Case is much better cooled from what I've researched. 32gb RAM. Plus this model comes with a 3 year warranty. Sold from a Asus partner. Same price $999. Pretty stoked to try it. If it has cooling issues, returns until Jan 31st. Wink

Edit: Oh and I signed up for an Amazon Store Credit card and got an instant $100 off. Nice score Cool

Take into account the value of the warranty. If that local one craps out, you'll potentially be left with nothing but a very expensive and uncomfortable footstool.

I know a lot of people are complaining about the heat this thing generates but we are crawling into winter and this will make a great PC/space heater for those with freezing basements. 😁

Damn I paid $1300 for this a few months ago! Really nice machine, but like everyone else said, very loud. Not an issue if you have a headset on though.

I can at least confirm that has worked for me with my last few builds. I can even manage which computers are tied to my windows account as well. When I sold my last PC to a friend I was able to remove it from my windows account and created a "local" account for him and he's been able to continue to use windows without issue.

Fully agreed. and it's nice to have a CPU you can throw into a HTPC down the road. PCpartpicker showed a significant difference between the igpu and F versions, but in actuality it's only a $11 price difference ($200 vs $211) https://www.amazon.com/Intel-i7-12700K-Desktop-Processor-Unlocked/dp/B09FXNVDBJ?source=ps-sl-shoppin... Damn. Tempted. Any BF deals to get the price down lower?
