  • Extreme Color Gamut – One of the first commercially available home theater projectors capable of displaying the full three-dimensional DCI-P3 (4) color space. This extreme color performance is 50% wider than typical 1-chip Rec. 709 (5) projectors and allows for a truly professional-level of color accuracy
  • Epson Precision Lens Technology – Designed for zero light leakage, all Epson Precision Lenses utilize a proprietary 15-element precision glass structure for outstanding image clarity and edge-to-edge focus uniformity

Get this or spend a grand to get ls11000. This is DLP vs laser in ls11000. I believe this still needs bulb changes vs laser is good to go for 10k+ hours.
As others have said, this is LCD (also 3 chip) just (big honking) lamp driven vs laser driven. The LS11000 is supposed to have a bit better sharpness, BUT if (when) the laser fails you're out a projector as they're not replaceable for the end-user. Most people don't seem to be bothered by this because either they don't watch a lot of hours on a projector, or assume they'll just go to the replacement at that far off day however the LS11k (like all lasers) just covers the laser for the standard warranty time (the same 2yrs for the LS as every other projector epson sells.)

If my budget was ~3k this is the PJ I'd buy as even though it's a little long in the tooth at approaching 5 yrs old, it's the best lamp driven PJ epson has (note replacement ELPLP89 lamps are $330 through epson which is the highest current replacement cost lamp.) As my current budget is extremely smaller, I'm waiting (in vain?) for the 3800 to drop to the 1k range as a refurbished unit (w/same 2 yr warranty as new on the projector, lamp is warrantied for ~90 days) replacement lamps are $100 for that and it's supposed to be a very decent shifted 4k projector that holds its own against the 4010 from most people's opinions. I'm currently quite happy with my 3rd or 4th epson projector the 2150 ($60 lamps!) so I can personally wait a bit longer but again to anyone who wants to spend this amount on a PJ: you can't go wrong with the 5050UB (if stock comes back on epson, it's the same price there for people trying to dodge amazon sales tax.)

Edit: forgot to mention the only reason (I'd say) to go for the LS over this is it's a high frame rate gaming projector with hdmi 2.1 and support for 4k@120fps.

Lots of new options since I bought my Epson 8100 many years ago for the home theater. I'm still using the original lamp.

I want to replace it. I don't think I need the short throw or ultra short throw feature as the projector is about 12-15' feet from the screen.

What is a 4k good replacement at $2,500 or less? Also, it doesn't need speakers.

Projectors are going to be dinosaurs in next 3 -4 years since 85 inch and 100 inches are tanking in price . You can prolly get 4k led 120 inch for 2- 3 grand down the line. So if not urgent , keep your older 1080p ones. As it is 4k content is extremely limited.

Um, are you looking for an answer aside from the obvious answer that is the projector this thread is about that you're commenting in (as a 4k replacement for $2400?) All again say this is the best non-laser option for (more or less) 4K LCD at this price

Not entirely helpful. The cheapest full 4k projector that I know of is double this price. Furthermore, pixel shifting is stellar. It is 4K for all intensive purposes.

Not entirely. Supposedly the laser only beats it marginally in sharpness. As a current 5020 owner, I can tell you, sharpness is not an issue with a good projector. Mine is 10+ years old and I've never been disappointed in the sharpness. In all other things the 5050 beats the laser especially where it counts...black levels.

Here's a trustworthy review: https://www.projectorcentral.com/...5050UB.htm

I may have to grab this, but I'm tempted to wait until Friday?

Your post kinda proves why it's helpful because people always say something like that but
pixel shifting is not true 4k.

The worth of it is an entirely other rabbit hole topic.

This site has it ranked #10. And, it says the resolution is 1080 (Is there where the "Not real 4K" argument comes in.).

Amazon link and "other sellers".

I did not look on Epson's site because it was not listed in the original post.

If you do some math 2x 1080p is 4M and 1x 4k is 8M pixels. There is no denying the fact the this epson image is not as sharp as a true 4k projector as only half of the pixels are projected. There are other newer projectors that can get close to the black levels of this projector. Pixel shifting <> 4k

I am in the same boat as you, 3800 dropped to 1499 in Epson Website and the refurbished 3800 is 1299. Still deliberating whether it is worth to pay $200 more for the new projector, but may end paying that as I dont see it dropping any further anytime soon.

I could be wrong but pretty sure redurbs dont allow for returns of any kind. So if you end up hating it you are stuck.
