Prices go up during BF for a lot of items that are not low end/low demand because BF/CM is a gimmick that attracts shoppers who believe they're getting deals when they really aren't. This has been the case for a couple of decades, and most savvy bargain hunters know the best sales are non-publicized non event sales, usually near the first 3-4 months of the year when old inventory needs to be cleared out.

You might get a slightly cheaper Sorny or Magnet Box set, but real brands and premium merch will barely budge. This drive is a perfect example of this kind of economics. It's "perception of value".

Listen folks, this thing was $99.99 just a couple weeks ago on Amazon, I know cause I bought one! Paying more for the same thing is NOT a good deal.
Tracker shows the lowest price for 990 Pro on Amazon was $119 so you are probably talking about used, which shows $77.42 as the lowest. Or, you bought a 980 Pro for $99.99

It was on sale on Amazon a few weeks ago with $40 coupon knocking the price down to $100. The deal didn't last long before out of stock. I bought one but regretted not buying more.

This faster as a boot drive compared to Intel Optane P1600x?

What about if it were paired in RAID 1?

Nearly 2 weeks later but realistically, probably not. Optane is a different beast altogether.

My dad's 5+ year old dell optiplex is snappier than any computer I've ever used.

I'm guessing your dad's optiplex uses optane? Or am I misunderstanding that reference?
