I have a set of these Howard Leight muffs that I bought last year on a SD.
Just to note, they greatly benefit from doing 2 modifications.

1. Replace the stock ear pads with Prohear Gel pads. Substantial comfort difference!
Right now Amazon has a 2-pack set of the Prohear gel pads on a Black Friday discount of $22.39 for both sets. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BTY2T196
I had paid $16.00 for one set last year and that was on a heavily discounted price. This is even lower, at $11.20 per set and the 2nd set can be easily sold if not needed or kept as a backup.

2. Most of the cups on these muffs have a hollow interior (minus the electronics).
You can make them far more isolated from noise by snapping off the ear plates, and filling the entire hollow areas with sound deadening foam (or any soft compressible foam rubber).
There's YT videos on doing this, as well.

Been using these for years, love them, excellent value. I've found the best combination for hearing protection is to use ear plugs and then use these over them with the mic volume cranked. Speech comes through crystal clear but the protection is incredible, even in indoor ranges. By themselves without ear plugs I wouldn't use them in an indoor range, but they're reasonable outdoors (I still double up as above if at the range because why not?). Also note they have just about the best "slim" profile I've found for good muffs and don't get in the way when using a rifle.

I had a set of walkers die on my pretty quick, emailed support and they couldn't care less. I don't know about Honeywell but they can't stand by their product less than walker.

My family owns three sets of these. It's very difficult to get a good seal over the ear because of the slim muffs. I've gotten an earful of gunshot at full blast several times because I turn my head slightly as someone is shooting causing the muffs to lift off my ear slightly.

For this reason, I have resorted to wearing earplugs underneath the muffs, then I turn the amplification up to max volume so that I can still hear conversation over the earplugs.

Bottom line: they are usable if you can't afford something better. Anything over $30 is too expensive, however.

That's because home prices have only gone up 50%…. Oh wait…

It's because car prices have only gone up 50%…. Dang, wait. I'll think of the reason.

It's because grocery prices have only gone up 50%… dang, no.

It's because gas has doubled… never mind, I don't think that is included.

It's because .. man, I don't know. Because they now pay $20/hr starting wage at Dennys etc even though everyone else's pay stayed stagnant maybe?
Preach!

Unfortunately the two set deal is dead.

Any recommendations for kids? I just started taking my kids to the indoor range and the free ones that they provide are horrible and hurt my kids ears when wearing safety glasses.
Howard Leight Impact Pros are a much better fit for smaller heads. However, take note of a few things. Though they do provide greater hearing protection, they also provide less hearing amplification and as such are harder to use successfully in conjunction with soft ear protection. Also, they are much bulkier and do not allow for a good cheek weld during rifle/ shotgun shooting.

The 2-set deal on the Prohear gel pads is apparently dead, but now they put the single set at a deep discount down to $14.97, which is the lowest price I've ever seen.

These are funny. When you stop shooting or mowing the lawn, suddenly you're listening to voices of a conversation 600 ft away. They're pretty sensitive.

Honeywell store have them for $29.95 with 10% off with code nov23 with orders above $30 which negates the shipping if you go economy. https://www.honeywellstore.com/st...gJuAfD_BwE [honeywellstore.com]
I got 2 for less than $31 each. thanks

great for mowing the lawn. Have had mine for a decade.
Same. Shop use and yard use. The only thing I wish they had is a Bluetooth calling feature.

Should I get these or passive 37dB reduction ear muffs? Does the ANC do a better job?
After getting my first set of Walker's, I can't go back to cheap basic ones. I got some from Walmart, and they were good when I was broke, but as soon as I had money to buy this type, I would never look back. Having to pull the old style off and back on was annoying, and I'd miss out on things my friends said. Now I just leave them on until the end of target practice. It's really funny being able to hear the grass under your feet and then your shot quieter than the grass.

FWIW: Had someone ask about noise reduction for going to a movie when sound bothers them. Having stereo mics would help. I wonder how well these would work there or for a concert, or if everything would be too loud to pass?

I bought one from Amazon for about that much before, and liked them. Then recently I bought them from a Chinese site for about half this price, and they are exactly the same.

Are these completely unsuitable/uncomfortable for an occasional range visit for a petite woman?

Walker Slims are a few dollars less, and I know they are great for the price. I am curious if anyone would consider these honeywells a step up or are they pretty much the same weight class?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...X0DER&th=1 [amazon.com]
Having used both the Walker Slims and the Honeywells and countless others, I can offer some insights. While the Walker Slims are indeed a bit cheaper, they tend to have a distorted digital mic noise which might be a deal-breaker for some. On the other hand, the Honeywells not only manage to minimize this issue but also offer a more comfortable fit.

Here's a pro tip: If I had the choice to get the walkers on sale versus the Honeywells at full price, I would pay full price for the Honeywells without hesitation, especially when paired with the Pro Gel Inserts. These inserts are a game-changer, transforming them into something you'd expect from a high-end pair. And good news – the inserts are currently half off here: Pro Gel Inserts on Amazon. [amazon.com] (15 bucks ish)

Hope that helps. Happy shooting!
