Need some advice from you Ubiquiti addicts. Our internet setup is pretty good, it works well, but i'm not one to ever leave anything tech related alone. I'm in the asus eco system for my wireless (using the Ai Mesh). Works pretty well since our house has at least 1 eithernet drop in each room so i can use the wiredbackhaul to the main router, so i get good wireless speeds....but thats not my problem. I try to hardwire everything that possibly can be so our house has probably 6-8 switches throuout the house. I'm wondering if i switch over to ubiquiti how exactly that will work...am i gonna go full crackhead and have to replace every switch with a ubiquiti one? Basically every ethernet drop in the house has a switch on it.
Advice? Should i just leave everything alone?

Ubiquti sells enterprise level networking equipment at affordable prices. Their network equipment is cloud managed with an easy to understand UI and does not have any recurring licensing fees unlike other brands. By going with UniFi you get access to their eco-system, which then lets you purchase managed switches, access points, surveillance equipment and more while being able to manage all of them from a "single pane of glass" versus using a hodgepodge of other brands/products to achieve the same effect. For an enthusiast home user, Ubiquiti would be my go to brand.

If 1Gbps is sufficient for each room with an Ethernet drop, then you can put a PoE switch in your network closet and then a flex mini PoE 5 port switch in any room with more than one device. Works great, and no power adapters for the in-room switches… and full management if the in-room switches, too.

So yeah, crackhead mode available 😜

I don't think I regret buying a UDM Pro, but it was expensive.

I have the DMP, it's excellent, best move I made as far as routers, and I've had many. No dead spots anymore. I recently changed my cameras from Hikvision/Synology to Ubiquiti cameras, some pros and cons, more pros. Faster to access from outside of home to view. I have a PoE injector for the cameras and access points. It would be nice to have the UDM SE, then I can eliminate a piece of equipment. Too bad it's not on sale, can't justify upgrading just for PoE.

But seriously, this discount thing rarely happens. I have UDM pro since the early access days and it has been treating me well.

I was hoping for the access points goes on sale as I need 1 more but I think if that happens, that would be early signs of WW3.

I think people overlook the extended warranty when buying direct.

Been studying UI warranty as my UDM original just died yesterday at the 3 year old mark now I am trying to decide what to replace it with… $100/year has not been feeling too slick but the IPS and coverage were great while they lasted.

Yes. the IOT vlan is separate from my main vlan. to manage my devices on IOT, i have to connect to the IOT vlan via wifi or lan.

Thanks! Yeah i think that 1Gbps is good enough for me...currently on the 1g xfinity, but they just started fiber install in our neighborhood, but from what i can find, they cap a 1g symetrical, but would be awesome if they did 2.5g.

I'll have to think if i want to go down this rabbit hole. I'm guessing if i ditched my asus router, at a minimum i would need:
UDM-Pro
2 access points (one upstairs one downstairs)

that would get me started and then i could start start swapping switches as i go?

It sounds like you plan on using multiple APs so in your position I would get the UDM Pro + Enterprise 8 PoE. That way you can leverage the 10 gig fiber internet immediately if you opt for U6 Enterprise APs. I snagged a UDM SE this summer and have 1 gig fiber internet, but now I'm wishing I held off for this UDM Pro deal 😂

Ah man. Based on the other poster I was ready to commit to the SE and not future proof. Now I'm back to being torn.

I've already got several unifi access points creating a WiFi mesh - but no hub connecting them.

Am I correct in thinking that the udm pro will act like a router, and the APs connect to it and can be managed remotely?
