This tool set doesn't come with the case. It come with case, if you buy this model "DeWalt DWMT45226H 226 pc. Mechanics Tool Set w/ ToughSystem Large Case". The model "DeWalt DWMT45226H" look like it's using case "DEWALT TOUGHSYSTEM 2.0 Tool Box DS300 Large". That case is normally price about $85. I found the best price sale right now around $60 without shipping cost, but you could pickup for free near by store.

Ordered two sets from Amazon and both boxes arrived ripped, beat up and bulging in the centers. Opened them up and there were sockets and broken tray fragments all over the place. 5 out of 6 trays were broken and I was missing two sockets in one set and 4 sockets and an extension in the other. I would make one good set and return the other, but they trays are unusable.

Yeah, I'm sure it doesn't have the box. Notice both eBay and Amazon links list model as DWMT45226 and everywhere else with box is DWMT45226H.

Pretty sure they are just taking the DWMT45226H and splitting the trays from the toughsystem box to sell separately 😂.

Trays would be nice to put in a tool chest and then you could always put them in a tough system box if you had one or for one later

So, what looks like the best place to buy this from - Ebay or Amazon? Is there even going to be a difference between the two estores?
If you click through the seller on Amazon, the seller info says it is CPO. So, same seller.

My research shows...

As someone said, the product IDs seem to indicate when the box is included by having the "H" at the end, which these do not = no case.

Case at amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Dewalt-DWS...08D3LX8HL/ [amazon.com]

Home depot link to the full set, with specific tools listed:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWAL.../310827235 [homedepot.com]

A comparable set that costco sells every year:
https://costcofan.com/dewalt-mech...et-costco/ [costcofan.com]

The case is currently $60 and goes for that at the lowest historically on amazon.

I think I'll pass on this because I have the toughcase and it isn't convenient "grabbing my socket set" size, it's a lug. So even if I did buy another one, that kinda sucks.

Plus the option of buying the case for $60 brings the total to around $130. I figure that's a good deal but not as amazing as this price seemed at first. I can get the costco set in the hand carrying case for around $80 when it goes on sale.

Keep in mind the costco set is not equivalent, it definitely lacks the larger socket sizes this set has, this is a better set.

If I had no tools and I needed a full set, I would get this and buy the case. If I just needed tools for the best price and didn't mind having an unorganized pile of sockets in a cardboard box in the garage... I would buy this. lol
I get you, but you linked a toughsystem 2.0 case. I think if you tracked down a 1.0 version you might get it cheaper. Not a promise that you will though.

The set comes with the 1.0 version of the toughsystem box not the 2.0.

Wondering where this stuff is made, hopefully Taiwan instead of China.
Pretty much anything Dewalt is gonna be from Taiwan these days. I'm waist deep in their mechanics ecosystem. Avoid the black chrome stuff though they suck.

Is there any reason to get this if I bought the 192 piece Dewalt mechanics tool set deal the other day?

Unless you want the trays and wrenches it'd be kinda silly to me.

It says three trays right in the EBay description
Oh man!!

Thanks.

I looked at that description three different times and didn't see it. I'm telling you as I get older I'm deaf blind the whole nine.

My wife will tell me where something is. I'll walk in looking for it for 5 minutes and can't see it. She'll walk in without even looking and grab it.

It's embarrassing!

Thanks again.

Are the trays tstack case compatible? I have an empty Dewalt case I picked up for 20 bucks in July. I can get rid of the random sockets and wrenches I have on a bag with this.

The set with the box also has a shallow tote included.
The box by itself also has a tote. It appears to be half the size of the tote in the "box set" but it does have one.

https://slickdeals.net/f/17090887-192-piece-dewalt-mechanic-tool-set-standard-sae-metric-combination-136-48-acme-tools?src=SiteSearch
Socket wise this set is a little less than the 192

here is the difference I saw
1/4 deep sockets This set skips 5/32 while 192 set skips 7/32
3/8 deep sockets This set skips 10 11 12 (There is 10 11 12 in 1/4 deep sockset anyway so no real skip in size there)

3 extension instead of 9. (those is not enough for spark plug changes, I could recommend buying the extension set from HF for $10 if you going to work on spark plug change)

No increase or decrease socket size vs 192 set having 3 (I actually a bit annoyed that the 192 set doesn't have a 3/8 to 1/2 increase socket, I was going to grab an increase/decrease set from HF for $5 anyway because of the missing size change)

No Hex or Torx bit set. there is a Trox socket set for $14 (https://a.co/d/htvp2vO). The Hex socket set doesn't have any good deals so far. if you don't need it immediately then you can wait for the LEXIVON hex socket set on sale (https://a.co/d/c7pSrIC)

No 1/4 Universal Joint. (i rarely use 1/4 universal joint)

1 spark plug vs 3 spark plug. the 5/8 sparkplug is enough for most car changes.

then it is down to where are you going to keep your set in the tool chest/cart or not.

if you going to put it into a tool chest/cart then this set is perfect since it comes with trays. if not maybe 192 is a better storage option for you. but does it justify the $70 dollar difference?

I am going to return my 192 to HD and switch to this since this set can fit perfectly in my tool chest. instead of laying around my tool chest.

Good call. I would have rather bought it on Amazon. But same deal so no dollars lost.
Regular price of $80 puts this into perspective. I miss when SD made it much clearer what the normal price was instead of the MSRP.

Anyone have suggestions for a complete kit. Idk how it comes if it comes in anything etc I just want as complete as possible

Ratchets don't weigh enough for aluminum to be worth paying extra for. Pipe wrenches on the other hand... Huge benefit.
