Not really strange, I'd say. This is one of the best performing 4080 laptops this year, esp in this size category.
You're getting the absolute top tier Intel i9 of the current gen, full powered RTX 4080, and a superior QHD full color coverage 18" display; the latter usually being FHD 360Hz or 480Hz from other manufacturers at this price.
The weight of this for an 18" is actually not that much, you have the Dell Alienware m16 that weighs more than this despite being a 16".

The legion pro is the closest competition but then again that's an entirely different size category, being a 16".

The RAM and SSD can be upgraded but the other things, can't.
Why do people post dumb ass comments like this? The world will never know!
Well it's an 18-incher and is supposed to be a desktop replacement, what else do you expect?

In for 1, thanks OP. I almost went for the Legion 4080 but went for this for the slightly bigger screen. Just need to get some extra ram for 32gb.

Surprised that manufacturers would pack an i9 and 4080 into a machine but only put 16GB RAM into it. What a strange oversight

I'd rather they did this than give us a 4070 and 64GB RAM for the same price.

RAM can be upgraded.

That said, I agree that this capacity is rather low for a high-end gaming laptop. My 2013 gaming laptop has 32GB of DDR3 installed.

I guess they had to cut corners somewhere to hit this price point.

According to Dave2D 9 months ago at original price tag, it was THE gaming laptop to buy.
Digging deeper into reviews across sites, it stands out compared to other 18in like Alienware or Razer as it's much lighter than AW and a tad lighter + thinner than Razer.
I think it's still THE best 18in gaming laptop to buy right now.

You can upgrade the ram, can't upgrade the GPU. The 4080 is a good amount better than the 4070. I saw 64 gig ram kit on here for $80 not too long ago.

I'm a noob. Am I correct in thinking that the 4080 is so close in performance to the 4090 that it's not worth paying extra for?

Does anyone know how much RAM (and type/speed) this will accept? That ram is the only sticking point for me. Was holding out for a Lenovo at around this price but I've liked my current ASUS and the extra screen size might be good.

No, I really don't.
