I think it's pretty messed up of Citi to continuously offer 15% on Black Friday every year, as if that's their major doorbuster point-exchange deal, and have people cash out all of their points for that, thinking they just got an amazing deal... and then just few days later like clockwork, Citi ups it to 20% but now those people don't have any points left to get them because they already used them all up on Black Friday. I feel bad for those who saw that 15% and fell for the bait.

Lesson is to accumulate Citi points til Cyber Monday every year specifically for this promo on Apple GC's; do NOT fall for their Black Friday "deal". Citi really should instead just make it 20% for Black Friday thru Cyber Monday. Not that 15% crap.
I was waiting for the 20% like they do every year - redeemed 75k worth of points

What do you guys buy from Apple? Looking at their prices, almost everything is priced higher than the deals we can get on the same products from other places. I was looking at a MacBook Air M2 that is $899 at many places, but it's $999 through Apple Education. Air pods that are $129 vs $79 at Walmart etc.

I just get them for gifts to friend's teenager kids.

I'm grateful for Slickdeals to be armed with this knowledge beforehand; I'll be hoarding all Citi points til Cyber Monday every year specifically for this promo on Apple GC's.

Agreed. 2 years ago I bought quiet a few on Good Friday and kicked myself on Cyber Monday!

Yes, our friends on SD reminded to wait 2 more days.

iCloud+, Apple TV+, and other App Store purchases/subscriptions. It's not hard to go through a couple hundred $ per year just in digital spend if you're committed to the Apple ecosystem.

Got it. Yeah, I am not in their ecosystem. Was just looking at some hardware devices, and couldn't find one that made sense in terms of the price as most Apple hardware is seeing significant discounts at retailers.

I have redeemed Apple GCs to my Apple account -- will use it on a future Macbook purchase
Thank you for confirming. I am also trying to buy a MacBook Pro and have sufficient GC but the 8 GC limit is a pain.

This deal is wack. I need points to get the 20% off. Useless. Better using one of the amazon deals.

Personally, I stock Apple gift cards for day 1 releases - usually every handful of years for a new MacBook. But you're right, after a few months these things can be found discounted elsewhere. For Citi ThankYou points though, Apple gift cards are for me the only compelling redemption, as the airline travel partners they have don't work for me, and restaurant and clothes shop gift cards don't appeal. So the 20% once-a-year bonus for them is quite nice.

You can buy most Apple hardware, including the new MacBook Pros for a good discount at many retailers (search for deals on SD). That totally negates the 20% discount that you get with these gift cards.

I accumulate these TY points from everyday shopping. So they are FREE, thus I don't feel guilty buying overpriced Apple products combined with Apple employee discounts!

At Walmart, I would have to spend $'s. At Apple, they are free!!

Probably dumb question but can these be used in purchase if iPhone? Does Apple allow a max number if gift cards per purchase?

I was surprised to see that the MacBook Pro M3s were discounted almost immediately after release. Many models were/are $150-$200 off. Not quite 20% off, but makes me not want to redeem my $550 in TY points for Apple.

At other retailers, you pay $'s.

At Apple, spending FREE TYP GC is a joy...

You can't redeem them for cash? I see them as cash. Whenever I buy anything with my Citi double cash, I treat the 2% back as something I have paid out of my pocket that I am getting back, and not a free gift.
