I think it's pretty messed up of Citi to continuously offer 15% on Black Friday every year, as if that's their major doorbuster point-exchange deal, and have people cash out all of their points for that, thinking they just got an amazing deal... and then just few days later like clockwork, Citi ups it to 20% but now those people don't have any points left to get them because they already used them all up on Black Friday. I feel bad for those who saw that 15% and fell for the bait.

Lesson is to accumulate Citi points til Cyber Monday every year specifically for this promo on Apple GC's; do NOT fall for their Black Friday "deal". Citi really should instead just make it 20% for Black Friday thru Cyber Monday. Not that 15% crap.
I was waiting for the 20% like they do every year - redeemed 75k worth of points

Is this a good use of my points to buy an iPhone 15 pro or are there better ways to get a discounted iPhone that's not tied to a carrier deal.

First time redeeming my citi points. I don't see an option to redeem my points for Apple GC, only option is to direct deposit or check by mail. How can I redeem my citi points?

144,000 points for $1800 in Apple Gift Cards, don't really need anything, but nothing else I'd use them for. I'm heavy in Apple's ecosystem so they'll get used eventually.

Agreed. 2 years ago I bought quiet a few on Good Friday and kicked myself on Cyber Monday!

Yes, our friends on SD reminded to wait 2 more days.

>to be armed with this knowledge beforehand; I'll be hoarding all Citi points til Cyber Monday every year specifically for this promo on Apple GC's.
Let's not jinx a good thing. ;-) Wink
Same. I fell for it a few years ago. I think that's as the first time they had 15% off on BF, while previous years were 20%. Luckily I didn't redeem all my points and ended up getting some more GC on Cyber Monday at 20% off. Now I always wait for Cyber Monday. This year I don't have that many points to spend though, as I have been more focused on getting Airline miles for overseas trips.

For those who don't know what to spend Apple gift cards on… if you want to buy standard/base config hardware or accessories, those are usually cheaper when on sale at Costco, Best Buy, Amazon, etc.
I use my gift cards to pay for iCloud and other services/App store purchases, custom configured hardware via Edu store (ideally during back to school promo), refurb hardware (usually only a good deal on non-Standard configs that can't be found elsewhere), or latest model iPhones (if you want to buy outright). If you qualify, Military, Apple employee friends/family, or business discounts yields similar or better discount as Edu, and work on refurb store as well. Edu and refurb don't stack. Also Black Friday weekend is a good time to buy certain items from Apple when they include promo gift cards. Apple allows you to pay for an item that includes a promo gift card with a gift card or your Apple account balance (which you can log up with gift cards).

It's all a shell game. When they have 15% off giftcards, they increase prices 15%. When they have 20% off giftcards, they increase prices 20%

What if you want an Macbook Pro but don't care about flights?

I just feel like this argument is so tired. "Better" is subjective. "Value" is subjective. Points should be redeemed for $0.01/ea AT MINIMUM. Anything better than that is "better" and dependent entirely on each individual's needs or preferences.

Good point. That's why I have such a hard time using points. I only want the BEST redemptions lol

Same. I've basically narrowed my points ecosystems down to:

AMEX Blue Cash Preferred (cashback, easy)
Discover (cashback, easy)
Citi (cashback or discounted GCs, easy)
WF Active (cashback, easy)
Chase Ultimate Rewards (Travel via > United/SW/Hyatt transfer)

I'll redeem any and all for cash/discounted GCs except UR, which I will not redeem for cash.

Nobody has mentioned the Vision Pro yet… so is there any downside to buying a bunch of these GC and using them to buy the Vision Pro next year upon release?

Is it taking a long time for anyone else to receive their eGCs via email?

After about 15 minutes of waiting I asked Citi to re-send the GCs again. One of them arrived in a couple minutes, then at about 20 minutes the original email arrived. The other re-send emails still haven't arrived.

It makes me worried my GCs are being stolen by other people on the Internet who know how to hack/filter emails at Internet hubs. Should I redeem them right away in my Apple account even though I don't like keeping a big balance there?

Is your balance safer in your Apple account than on a GC you haven't yet redeemed in your account? I guess I need to look into 2FA for my Apple account for redeeming anything.

Once you redeem your GCs in your Apple account, does that prevent anyone from using a copy of that GC (such as in an Apple store), or is it like Target.com where both the stored online card or a GC printout are equally usable?

I don't own any Apple products but use Apple GCs for iTunes purchases to watch on Apple TV on Android streaming devices.

I was totally out of Apple eGCs a while ago and bought a few small ones at 10% off, but fortunately I saved many points for today.

I could name off other companies (Disney is one) who play the same game. They tout great BF deals and then on CM they have a bigger discount, this time 5% extra. It's definitely a purposeful "how many people can we sucker in at lower discounts and hold out the best discount for later". Unless I'm totally out of GCs or really need something, I'm going to skip BF and wait for CM for both Citi and Disney.

Retailers have effectively killed BF and made it BF month. I hope all the stores will go back to being closed on Thanksgiving day. They took a good thing and ruined it. Even mid summer you get ads saying "Black Friday in July" with meh prices. BF has pretty much lost all of its meaning.
