I don't think Costco people would tenderize steaks mechanically (simply add more labor cost). They usually cut their steaks fresh in bulk from vacuum-sealed whole pieces (usually gone within 1-2 days) while retail stores keep their steaks out on ice for much longer. Therefore Costco steaks appear to be tender and wet. As steak dries and protein/fat starts to degrade, the beefy flavor becomes more pronounced, like aging. I feel you probably will like ribeye cap a lot.

Fact check: I was wrong. They do tenderize most single-cut steaks with blades.

From what I recall, they do mechanically tenderize most of their steaks, unlikely for this though. I believe you can see it on the label as "Blade Tenderized".

Actually, the richest people are most often the cheapest.

I just got back from Japan a few weeks ago and the A5 was life changing. Anyone with experience with this specific steak from Costco can tell me if it's comparable? I'd hate it if the only way to experience A5 Wagyu was a 16 hour+ flight to Japan.
It's equivalent! Just make sure you have a really nice cast iron and heat it well so that it cook it fast with a little burnt tip to it!

Does Costco put in a mini gold bar somewhere in there to justify the cost?

I've not had this specifically, but A5 Wagyu tastes like butter that has beef bullion in it.

Imo, the 11 pound strip for $799 is a better deal. It has less fat and has more of the meat texture.
Maybe a lot of gristle?

I'm disabled and eat beans. Because I am poor. Thought I'd get email notifications to maybe save money on cheap canned goods. Mostly beans. Because I am poor. This was the first listed "personalized" item. I think "personalized" may be untrue.

They do tenderize all sliced steaks. If you don't want tenderized you need to buy them whole.

These aren't cut right? I would buy if it's cut but I have nothing to cut a whole one. If not I'll buy the strips. I had a5 in Kobe a few years ago and it was delicious.

I don't think you fully understand the demographics of those who hang out on slickdeals. I have been on this site for over 16 years. My net worth and household income has changed significantly over that time, for the btter... perhaps partially BECAUSE I hang out on slickdeals! While I won't bite (pun intended) on this deal, that doesn't mean I couldn't.

I am quite sure I am not the only one.
Yeah. I've been here since high school 2004 when my friend told me about this site. I'm in anesthesiology now.

The best way to eat this is Japanese style, yakiniku on a small grill. Enjoy with Japanese rice (calrose) and between bites pickled mustard greens to help cut the fat.

Cut into several 1-1.5" x 2-2.5 bite sized pieces about 1/4" thick on a hot grill to quickly sear it while medium-medium/rare in the middle. Instantly cook each bite as you go.
Melt in your mouth delicious!
However being A5 and ribeye cut, this will be insanely rich.
I actually prefer slightly lower grades with less fat to bring back some meatiness texture.

Think of this as like a Jamon Iberico, small slices/portion at a sitting where you can appreciate the quality and have plenty more for later!
Man, don't say to eat this with Japanese rice and then tell people to buy medium grain calrose that originates from California. Japanese rice is short grain, which is what I buy and is delicious.

Didn't know it before. I went to Costco today and actually read the "blade tenderized" description.

whole piece. People cut it into steaks while frozen and vacuum seal each. It looks pretty trimmed so I would not expect much to go to waste. Strips and Ribeye at A5 taste about the same TBH, pure butter.

We never, EVER mentioned brisket... I did mention however that their tri-tip was pretty good. I would totally try their brisket, and intend to. It's packed much differently as well.
Costco has full packer USDA prime brisket in $3-5/lb range. Sometimes Prime/Choice beef short ribs and even back ribs. Can't beat the quality at that price. I've smoked a lot.

I take offense to this as I bought this before and still have half of it in my freezer and I love slick deals.... šŸ˜„

That said I would trade what's in my freezer it for the same weight in Prime ribeye. Wagyu is not my cup of tea.

Yep. I've smoke the ribs there numerous times...

For another 100, you can get the new 12mph Honda Motocompacto e-scooter. Yet another thing your wife would not appreciate but you want.
