I think this is the OEM version of the Acer Predator GM7000 that was available on Amazon for $185 up until yesterday.
Nice value, but there are some concerns about the Innogrit IG5236 controller chip dying unexpectedly in these.
I'm really tempted, but I don't really want to take chances with a 4TB ssd that I would like to use as a primary drive for 5+ years
Speaking of which...My 2 year old AData S70 Gammix with the same controller decided to take a dump today. It was my boot drive for what was supposed to be for my daughter's hand me down computer.
I did a windows update and my mobo lost the drive. Powered on and off and it found it. Powered on and off later and it was completely gone...luckily I have a spare gen3 WD 750, which is older, but works fine.
The performance was great while it lasted...but dying only after 2 years sucks quite honestly. Hopefully RMA is fast with AData.

Yup. Biwin makes the drives for both HP and Acer. And they also sell the same thing direct, usually for a bit less $. Check amazon and ebay for them.
Also, the "graphene" heat spreader isn't graphene and isn't much good. When these drives get sent out for reviews, they include a regular metal heat sink.
So unless you're using it in a ps5, plan on buying a real heat sink for it.

Well, my S70 Gammix crapped out, it took a month for them to get it back to me, and the USPS lost it. Shows delivered, but never made it into my box. ADATA told me I have to file with the USPS for insurance, which they only insured for $100. I have to see how much Adata will kick in after USPS give me a $100 (if USPS will even reimburse me.)
ADATA = NEVER AGAIN

Yeah I haven't heard anything great about the RMA experience with them...not looking forward to it.

What brand/model 4tb drive does everyone think would me more reliable from a longevity standpoint. I almost bought this until I read all your comments.

The WD 850 seems like a solid bet, as does the Samsung 990.
Of course, those do cost a bit more.
Beyond that, everything is basically a crapshoot. I just try and avoid the obvious red flags. Nothing is guaranteed. An example is the Samsung 840 (I think), which started having problems with it's data degrading over time. Samsung fixed it with a FW change, but a lot of people didn't give those drive a chance to get old.
It was also a time when upgrading to a bigger, cheaper SSD every year or so was quite common.

Thanks very much for this information. Does anyone know if the 2tb drives having the same issues?
This thread is a bit depressing, I bought the Predator a while back, now I'm worried about it failing
I typically use big name brands that's been proven reliable obviously they're bigger companies and they need to keep their reputation and they have the financial investments to put into it. Examples are Kioxia, Samsung, Hyundai brands. I own all those and a couple of high performance Corsair MP600 Pro NH & a Mushkin Vortex 2TB. The Vortex has an IG controller also I believe but so far so good.
