For $600, this is an extremely good deal. Even if you need a sink $100 into a set up and some fret work you'd still be way ahead of anything comparable, especially that says fender on the headstock
I bought one of these locally 3-4 weeks back because I fell in love with the neck and couldn't let it go after seeing it three times. It's completely random, but my copy has some awesome bird's-eye in the maple, it looks amazing. I already had the LPB Player from the previous deal that I now need to sell locally, but I would definitely choose this over the player side by side. The only thing I might like better on the player is the neck pickup, but it's not a huge difference. Having the 4 way switch and S1 gives a lot of tone options; S1 only does anything in positions 1 and 3 if I remember correctly. FYI the pick guard on the Vintera is Mint, not white. It looks great. Both the player and vintera were a pleasant surprise in terms of fit/finish and overall quality.
Regarding the pau ferro fretboard: I definitely saw some of what I see as common complaints with the one on my vintera. It was a nice color, but had no 'pop' to it, and to the touch it felt almost lightly rough, like cheap note paper. I took it to my luthier who hit the whole board with his low rpm buffer and a lot of compound and now I absolutely love it. The streaky grain popped nicely, and now the surface has the smooth look and feel of my nice rosewood ones. I definitely think the pau ferro hate is mostly because the boards aren't getting the finishing touches needed to make them as nice as we're used to, not because of anything different about the wood.

I agree that it's novel for Fender to play around with the features and country of manufacture for their "high-end" guitars (Professional) versus "mid-tier" (Player, Player Plus) models. Moving an MIM into the previously American-only (right?) Fender territory is noteworthy.
I disagree that they're really changing up their historic strategy. When did Fender last introduce a really new guitar? The Squier Paranormal models sort of did, but those were just new combinations of existing body shapes, necks, and pickups. Gibson/Epiphone seems to be in the same boat. Yamaha at least introduced the Revstar in 2015 or so.
Back to Fender, their product naming is a hot mess. In reading about the guitar in the OP, I read a review about it, or so I thought. The review was for the "Vintera '60s Telecaster," but it kept talking about a vintage 7.25" radius and rosewood fretboard. The OP is for the "Vintera '60s Telecaster Modified," which has the more modern 9.5" radius and pau ferro fretboard. Well that's something to look out for. If they wanted to confuse their buyers, they'd be hard-pressed to do worse. You have to scrutinize the specs for any of these models with complicated names.
