Bought. Musiciansfriend price matched, and got $44 in rewards. Thanks!
Make sure MF will send you a new one from their warehouse. I received an American Strat shipping from a local guitar center. It is not in the Fender box. The string was changed, plastic film removed from the pickguard. And somebody tried to file down fret edges and damaged the fretboard.

Agreed. I called my rep at MF and he confirmed they only have 3 left in the entire company and they're at 3 different Guitar Centers, meaning they're most likely display models. No new inventory in their warehouse.

Is this a significant step up from the Player Tele? I bought one of those for a similar price last year and am wondering if I should upgrade Big Grin
This is a completely different animal from a player tele. Player is going to be more modern, this is more classic. They are different enough from each other that you could easily justify having both.

For $600, this is an extremely good deal. Even if you need a sink $100 into a set up and some fret work you'd still be way ahead of anything comparable, especially that says fender on the headstock

Sonofa...

I bought one of these locally 3-4 weeks back because I fell in love with the neck and couldn't let it go after seeing it three times. It's completely random, but my copy has some awesome bird's-eye in the maple, it looks amazing. I already had the LPB Player from the previous deal that I now need to sell locally, but I would definitely choose this over the player side by side. The only thing I might like better on the player is the neck pickup, but it's not a huge difference. Having the 4 way switch and S1 gives a lot of tone options; S1 only does anything in positions 1 and 3 if I remember correctly. FYI the pick guard on the Vintera is Mint, not white. It looks great. Both the player and vintera were a pleasant surprise in terms of fit/finish and overall quality.

Regarding the pau ferro fretboard: I definitely saw some of what I see as common complaints with the one on my vintera. It was a nice color, but had no 'pop' to it, and to the touch it felt almost lightly rough, like cheap note paper. I took it to my luthier who hit the whole board with his low rpm buffer and a lot of compound and now I absolutely love it. The streaky grain popped nicely, and now the surface has the smooth look and feel of my nice rosewood ones. I definitely think the pau ferro hate is mostly because the boards aren't getting the finishing touches needed to make them as nice as we're used to, not because of anything different about the wood.

Yes. It's at the high end of the MIM models.
Fender is experimenting with the Vintera series to see if this becomes a part of the player plus or professional series. This is new for them as they usually do it on Squires. The Vinteras are in my opinion as good if not better than the MIJ counterparts (Yep own them too) for the sheer boldness of trying something new yet not alienating the vintage lovers. Hard thing to accomplish but heck kudos to them for trying. Other brands stick to their tried and true strategy but Fender is definitely rocking the boat here.

I wasn't planning on buying a guitar today, but this is too good to pass up. Thanks! My wife is going to murder me in my sleep tonight.

did the fender factory get a great deal from their blue paint supplier this year or does nobody like it? seems like every Fender deal popping up is for Lake Placid Blue

Some great deals on these Vintera but the heel truss adjustment is a deal breaker for me. Such a pain.

Indeed. I ordered one hoping that the neck relief is already correct. If it isn't, I'll probably return the guitar rather than mess with accessing the neck pocket. There's a lot of guitar nostalgia, but difficult truss rod adjustments are nothing to be nostalgic about. I've typically never had to adjust the relief once it's correct, though.

Yep, I'm feeling like this color just blasts "bought on sale" these days.

Can I agree and disagree both?

I agree that it's novel for Fender to play around with the features and country of manufacture for their "high-end" guitars (Professional) versus "mid-tier" (Player, Player Plus) models. Moving an MIM into the previously American-only (right?) Fender territory is noteworthy.

I disagree that they're really changing up their historic strategy. When did Fender last introduce a really new guitar? The Squier Paranormal models sort of did, but those were just new combinations of existing body shapes, necks, and pickups. Gibson/Epiphone seems to be in the same boat. Yamaha at least introduced the Revstar in 2015 or so.

Back to Fender, their product naming is a hot mess. In reading about the guitar in the OP, I read a review about it, or so I thought. The review was for the "Vintera '60s Telecaster," but it kept talking about a vintage 7.25" radius and rosewood fretboard. The OP is for the "Vintera '60s Telecaster Modified," which has the more modern 9.5" radius and pau ferro fretboard. Well that's something to look out for. If they wanted to confuse their buyers, they'd be hard-pressed to do worse. You have to scrutinize the specs for any of these models with complicated names.
