Thank you!
I was able to do it on the second call. checkcoverage.apple.com confirms purchased 11/28/23.
Both times the first CSR had to escalate to a specialist.
On the second call, the first CSR mentioned that my device was originally registered on April 19, 2023. She mentioned that she couldn't change the date herself, and it seemed it may have been because it was over 180 days.
I got the space gray MBP with 512 gb. I'm guessing that perhaps the authorization level required and apprehension about updating might increase after the 180-day threshold, which I can understand. Aside from some CSR's being more accommodating than others, this may explain why some people had an easier time updating.

I recommend this case, ive had this SAME brand, same leather version on all my MacBooks since 2015.
MacBook 12 inch, check
MacBook 13 inch intel check
MacBook 13 inch m1 check
MacBook Pro M1 Pro check- bought 2, one for gf and me. she got flowers I got black leather.
Case fits excellent, gives it a premium feel. no worries about scratches and stuff.
also, it comes with a sleeve that fits PERFECT and is HIGH QUALITY, like LEGIT. it fits over the case+laptop. snug as a button. ignore bottom pic,

they have 16 inch of this case. buy it. but this is my 14.
(IM REALY THINKING ABOUT BUYING A 16 inch m2 pro next year) for my desktop. but since I can only afford one right now, and I sold my air. 14 is prob what im sticking with unless a steal comes out, but I think all deals are over now.
ETA delivery is 12/5 but hasn't actually shipped yet

I looked up the error and it looks like this is a known issue with M1 Mac hardware. Apparently there is some problem with the M1 hardware in particular. I'm returning mine to woot, since it's basically unusable. Sad, because this was a great deal AND because Apple is apparently going down the path of trying to dump their faulty hardware on unsuspecting consumers
Mine was factory sealed refurbished condition and otherwise like new. Obviously the original owner returned for the exact issue I'm experiencing.
