From the item description, the ports dynamically change their power outputs depending on how many devices are connected. Thats probably whats waking it up.

This is how these kinds of devices are supposed to work, especially with USB C, power delivery re-negotiation has to occur, because the device needs to determine how much power it should delivery every time new devices are plugged in.

For example, if you only use the USB C port, and that's the only thing plugged in (no USB ports are used), then the device would be able to delivery maximum power to whatever your device is asking for e.g. your ipad. If you have your ipad connected (presumably to the usb c port) and you plug an additional cable into the USB ports, you are actually limiting the power that leaves your USB C port when the device and the connected devices re-negotiate for power

In summary there is a total maximum power a port can potentially deliver, if and only if that is the only port being used by, in this case, a charger that has other ports (usb c, usb). If you read the back of this device it has more details about maximum power, volts/amps, but the average person doesn't really read this kind of stuff so its not necessary

That's pretty standard behavior for multi-port USB chargers (particularly those with PD) - charging rates get "renegotiated" when an additional device is added or removed.

I have this. I don't know if it is defective. If I have my iPad connected and then try to charge another device on a different port, it wakes up my iPad. No other USB charger does this. So I mainly stick to only charging a single device at a time just in case.

Ah. Makes sense. Thanks. I hadn't considered that. I've owned many multiple device chargers and never had that happen before.

Basic and/or older USB-A chargers typically had a static max amperage so the renegotiation wasn't needed.. It wasn't until PD that charging voltages started deviating from USB's legacy 5V that it became a necessity.

This would be ideal with 2x USB C, 1x USB A.

The Anker 525 I bought last year as a gift and it is really quite nice. Shame it is so much more expensive.

I own this and it's okay and I also own a bigger version of this. I will tell you that I have stopped traveling with these items and instead have just a normal multiport extension cord in my backpack, which I plug normal usb-c charging bricks into. Not only is it more compact, and that you get more ports, but they can also be higher wattage.

i bought two of these last time they were on sale. one on each side of the bed. i believe in slow charging devices anytime possible so my personal 15 pro max and m1 12.9 ipad pro get slow charged over night with the usb A ports while my work S22+ gets the 20w usb c port. i like having the ports on the night stands in the event i need to plug something else into them instead of having separate adapters plugged into a power strip behind the night stand. the plugs on the back are extra bonus as my echo show's plug into them. they've been fantastic and i for one appreciate the low usb power output. if you want more power, the other model with two usb C ports is for you.

I just ordered one. I agree with the comments. If it had 2x USB-C's, be perfect. It's for my wife who charges her phone overnight most of the time, so slow charging is not an issue. If it looks great, works great, might get one for myself, if still on sale.

There is a 65watt model with 2 USB C and 2 USB A and it's $40.

you can literally see the spacing in the picture on this post.. it's not a direct photo of the back, but you can very clearly see the spacing via how far each of of the cables are spaced. it looks like there is almost 0 space which makes sense since this is supposed to be 'compact'

Been using this to charge items at my desk, as well as plug a light or two. Works well for what I do.
