For what it's worth, I buy my own oil (full synthetic) and filter when I see the oil deals here on Slickdeals. A good Mobil 1 filter at Walmart, or similar deal on eBay and you can make a very economical oil change. I have a local shop that will change my oil for $15 if I provide the oil and filter, no wait or appointment , just pull in and they do it. It would be worth asking around, or even asking a non-franchised quick change place if they will do it if you provide the oil and filter.

...And yet people balk at the price when we do the same for $40 at my shop (with a WIX filter!). Why? Because they all instantly compare prices to the Wal-Mart s-, I mean, pit crew price of $25 for an oil that is absolutely bottom-tier and a sad excuse they call a filter.

Moral of the story? At least try to call a few local shops to see if you can get a better price on your next oil change. Most are probably high, but there are still a few righteous shops out there hanging on for dear life watching while people grossly overpay for the most simple services elsewhere.

Slightly off topic, but IMO with labor prices the way they are now I think it's absolutely still worth changing your own oil if you are able to. I can change the oil in either of my cars with full synthetic (Supertech or Kirkland usually) and an OEM filter for under $25. Takes about 15 minutes if I'm working slowly. Ramps and a catch can will set you back about $60, then you're set for life.

Not an option for everyone to be sure, but it's maintenance almost anyone can handle if they have a place to work and the desire to save some money.

I used them a couple of times. Mainly because my 18 Kia Sorento has a splash shield below held up by 17 x 10mm bolts. I pump out the oil through the dipstick up top rather than going under. Plus, I got a transmission fluid change since I was here. The goal is drain what's left of the oil that couldn't be sucked out and to generate an oil change history So far, the oil change up top has been successful.

Check Groupon for your local Valvoline. Usually better deal on Groupon. I just did my car for $47.99 with Groupon deal for synthetic.

They use a tiny hose and insert it into the oil fill port all the way down to the oil pan to suck the old oil out.

I didn't like how they suck the oil out. Feels like you can't completely get a good drain. They were able to suck out 4L out of my car but normally I fill 4.2L of new oil. So the sucking device left about .2L in the engine.

Last year I bought a full synthetic oil change for valvoline on groupon for 53. It says value 106 which is probably true. Haven't seen this price this year.
I was charged $103 (-$25) last time for full synthetic oil change.

This basically brings their price down to normal cost for an oil change. Might be really good if you're in a pinch and need an oil change on the quick. This place never takes more than 20 minutes to change your oil.
Pretty much my experience. We were taking our Odyssey on a road trip and the dealership was 2-3 weeks out schedule wise. Went to Valvoline about 2 mins from my house. Was in and out in 15 mins. That said, other than convenience, would likely never go back. Didn't have this good of a coupon, but it was more expensive than dealership. About $75 vs $50 or so at the dealership. And then they try to find a half dozen other issues and recommended services, that are all incredibly inflated. Seems like I can blindly trust the dealership more than these kind of shops.

Same but that was because my car takes 7qts of oil. The price is set for 5 qts then additional added on if I remember right.

$25 off? I get an oil change with Mobile One full-synthetic and inspection for $25 from my dad's cousins shop. 101 years in business.

Valvoline is so overpriced.

I worked at a dealership, and NEVER take my car to them or these oil change places period. The dealership and most of these places just use the cheapest NON-SYNTHETIC oil even though its sold as being synthetic, and they sometimes destroy the oil pan plug in the process.

One time they forget to put the oil back in the car and it destroyed the engine, but the dealership of course wanted to blame the customer STILL. Do your own oil changes.

$25 off $80-90 isn't a deal lol. Walmart is like $45-50 every day. Heck, my local mechanic does a synthetic change for $50 flat.

I had no idea it cost this much for an oil change. Makes me feel better about the price I pay for a diy oil change.

I wouldn't go here to get your oil change. Go to a dealer or small business or do it yourself if you can. Valvoline tightens the oil filter so tight that I needed to use the jaws of life to take off my gf oil filter.

According to "my tiktok research" Valvoline employees are required to use a tool that over tightens the oil filter. You can see other mechanics trying their hardest to remove the oil filter even the last resort of sticking a screwdriver through it so you have extra leverage.

Other mechanics and DIY oil changers say this is bad because it might strip the threads where the oil filter goes.
Same experience.

I give you one reason why I do my own oil change now and not go to these places, they often neglect to put back a few one of those fasteners that keeps the engine splash shield in place after an oil change, you ended up dragging that piece for miles and miles, laziness cost them a customer.

No way am I changing the oil in my car in winter weather right now. This Valvoline service is REALLY nice. You get done in 15 minutes. I was skeptical when I first used the service. You stay in your car while they change your oil. That to me is a cool idea. I can see them working. As they ask you questions they are draining your oil. You get in and out so fast. No appointment. You just drive up to their drive through area and you're in and out. My car manufacturer where I usually get my oil changes + tire rotation done had a 2 month appointment waiting time and the process feels like going to the dentist. I sit inside for close to 40 minutes and I can't see anything they are doing. I just needed an oil change this time around. I can get Walmart to do the tire rotation since I bought my tires with them. I do the tire rotation every other oil change.
