Moral of the story? At least try to call a few local shops to see if you can get a better price on your next oil change. Most are probably high, but there are still a few righteous shops out there hanging on for dear life watching while people grossly overpay for the most simple services elsewhere.
Not an option for everyone to be sure, but it's maintenance almost anyone can handle if they have a place to work and the desire to save some money.

Oil changes are the only thing I don't do myself.
Have you heard of brake cleaner? It works wonders on any oily mess that may be involved. If you have a good sealed container and some brake clean for any residue or drips on the outside, it's impossible to have a messy car...
I was genuinely disappointed in the service.

Brakes aren't that difficult or dirty to do it my self. There is barely any brake dust and easy to clean up.
I never tried to use brake cleaner to clean up excess oil. Hmm maybe I could try it once more. But the dealer charges 45 after tax and fees for an oil change and I get a hot chocolate with an espresso shot, a bear claw, a moment to run thru my calendar and to do list, then a fresh simple wash that will last me 2 weeks before I need to wash it again. So for me I just go to the dealer to get an oil change now.
edit: forgot to mention about having to spend time cleaning up all the oily tools.

Only amateurs get "all the tools" oily.

Which could be why I hate doing it.

It's not for everyone, positively. But practice makes perfect.
...And treat brake cleaner like duct tape. It can do almost anything!
It can:
clean oil spills
clean transmission fluid spills
clean power steering fluid spills
clean gear oil spills
clean coolant spill residue
...okay it can clean literally almost anything
it can be used as starting fluid in a pinch
it can be used to diagnose oil leaks
it can be used to clean up dirty/dusty engines
the list goes on
But my favorite use is arachnid killer. Soak 'em down, watch 'em scurry, then BOOM. Crispy.
