Thanks OP. Was there a better low budget laptop or desktop deal on Black Friday or Cyber Monday?

Here's the full spec sheet:

Since they don't say IPS, I think it's safe to assume it's TN. You don't waste that opportunity in marketing to leave out "IPS" if it is in fact an IPS.

R5-7520U is inferior to i3-1215U, right?

Then this seems not be be a very appealing, considering that a i3-1215U/4GB/128GB is commonly available for around $250-270 on sale, which would take around $40 for RAM/SSD upgrades.

Man, I thought "no way is this possible" but after a quick check [cpubenchmark.net], you're absolutely correct.

Kind of surprising to see something like a low power i3 beat a Ryzen so handily in both single and multithread.

My wife's new laptop that I purchased from BB earlier this week came with 8GB soldered, plus an expansion slot. Before unboxing the extra 8GB of RAM that I purchased, we started the laptop up and used it a bit. Windows was using around 6GB out of 8GB. Running Windows itself was very fast on the 8GB. I'd suggest you look at what programs you have running in task manager and how much memory they take.

Fair point... and the Ryzen 5 5500u (which was released before either processor) is better than both [cpubenchmark.net].

I'm just saying I'm used to the Ryzen line of chips killing intel from a price:performance ratio... and it's not the case here.

Thanks for posting this OP Smilie

If this interests anyone here's a youtube video on upgrade possibilities

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTbH_YZWJxw

I've been spoiled by my acer laptops that allow you to install a second hard drive (more storage space, you can save files on the non Windows/C drive in case you need to restore Windows from a previous backup) and sadly this model does not support two hard drives apparently although for the price you really can't complain. You could always just plug in an external hard drive but lazy people like me won't want to do that Stick Out Tongue
