If you're in CA - you're allowed to submit what's called a trial by declaration to fight your ticket. Essentially, you submit your version of events to the judge, who notifies the officer to do the same - and then the judge reviews both declarations from you and the officer and makes a final decision.

This works in getting your ticket dismissed more often if you follow a couple of steps. First, make sure you make your traffic stops is not a memorable one for the officer - keys on dash, sunglasses/hat off, hands on wheel, windows down, "good morning/afternoon/night officer... yes officer, no officer," etc... do not fight him/her on anything and just sign for the ticket and go about your day. 2 weeks before your court date - extend your ticket/push court date out (you can initially push it 3 months). 2 weeks before your new court date, CALL the courthouse and make up an excuse why you can't make it for your court date (surprise work trip, family member sick, etc...) The court clerk will ask you what's the next best date for you - try to push it out another 3 months. Now you're 6 months out from your initial court date - start working on your trial by dec. and make sure the court receives it 2 weeks before your court date. Now this extends the process by about another month, as now the judge will ask the officer to respond and will give him/her 30 days to do so. However, so much time has now passed that the cop won't care about sticking it to you/taking the time out of his/her busy day to write a response - you were not a dick, you were not memorable, and it's whatever. So most likely the judge will dismiss your ticket. If the judge does not dismiss and rules in favor of the officer if they did reply - then you have an option to ask for a trial de novo - an in person trial - and you and the officer both have to go in. Hopefully in that case, so much time has now passed that the officer will most likely not show up, and if he does, then judge will rule in their favor and you can ask for a reduced fine/traffic school to reduce the severity of whatever consequence you may face. Lots of info on this online. I've gotten 8 of mine dismissed and 5 of my friends/family members' tickets here in LA county. Good luck!

A speeding ticket will run you $250-300 in fines and then your insurance will shoot up for 3 years too.

Has anyone received their unit yet ? I ordered on Dec 2 and status is not shipped. I contacted Buy Dig and customer service said the unit is a pre order and it won't ship for 1-2 weeks. But they already sold 500+ on their site. I don't know if this is true or not, or they're just out of stock
I ended up placing 2 orders - one when it first went on sale and the second when the eBay coupon brought the price down lower. I did receive the 2nd order placed (the cheaper one) but I did not receive my original order yet so they are at least shipping some.

I don't know if this is normal, but the default setting has Bluetooth off so I used the Uniden program from their website to turn it on and import the settings from Vortex Radar. It is MUCH easier to change the settings on a computer and then upload them to the detector than it is to fuss through the menus on the detector itself. I did purchase R8 Companion but did not get a chance to try that yet because the Bluetooth was off.

I've lost count how many times my radar detector has saved me over the years. It's paid for itself at least 10x at this point.and i have a older one from the 2000's. I have a V1 which doesn't have all the bells and whistles and is noisy as fark, but i don't even hear the junk beeps anymore im so used to it.

That said, there has been so many times i'll be speeding and it will alert me, i slow down or switch lanes and the car behind me or next to me keeps going and gets pulled over. Laser will always be a problem if you don't speed smart or have a jammer to help. Don't speed alone that is a HUGE mistake to be caught...Now with the supplement of waze it helps with that when cops like to hide and use a trigger to catch people with pop shots.
I was an original die-hard V1 arrow fan and had the latest version before the Gen 2 models but I found it to be rendered completely useless by all of the false alarms from the blind-spot monitors no matter what setting I used. I bought an R7 on sale a few years ago and was amazed at the difference and it was money well spent. Not only are the false alarms dramatically reduced, but sometimes the R7 picks up radar so far away that you think it can't be real but it is. I am sure the new generation V1 is good but now I am in the Uniden camp and just upgraded to the R8.

A second CSR sent me the following after I enquired about a shipping delay

Thank you for contacting us. We truly apologize about the delay.

Please note, as the R8 Extreme Long Range Radar/Laser Detector is listed as a pre-order, it will be shipped out within the next 1-2 weeks and you will receive a confirmation email at that time.

Once again, we apologize about this matter and thank you for your understanding.

Please let us know how you would like to proceed.

Have a great day!

Sincerely,

Angela Z.

I got the same response, which is bullshit. People who ordered at the cheaper price 2 days later are all getting theirs. I viewed the listing as it was posted when we purchased, and nowhere does it say that it is a preorder.

I have a 2200 mile trip in a week and it's not looking like I will have this in time. They are getting a 1 star review from me and I am debating purchasing it again from them and returning the one that arrives last.

I placed another order today. Let's see if it ships. Both times, the listing says 'Same Day Shipping'.

I will cancel the one that doesn't ship first.

They sent me this message after I told them it wasn't a preorder and the R8 was released back in March and units have been shipped with the recent price drop but seemingly not orders prior to that

We apologize for the inconvenience regarding the delay on your order.

As per our purchasing team, we can have the item available early next week. We will be able to ship your order within that week. A notification will be sent via email once your order is shipped.

Thank you for your patience and feel free to contact us if you have any additional questions. We appreciate your business.

Sincerely,

Belle C.

So many false alerts nowadays, that you can't remember and block with GPS since it's from other cars' blind spot monitoring and collision avoidance and drive assist systems. I know it explicitly calls out that it can filter out "most of those" but I'm doubtful
I've paired my R4 with the R4 companion app for iPhone and it has really helped when driving near a Mazda with their 24.123/124 K band blind spot monitoring.

There was a couple hours on Monday morning where the Price was $550 and eBay had a 15% off coupon. Buidig raised the price to $650 shortly after the coupon started.

The amount of sht talking from the good driver citizens is quite amusing.
No ones convincing you to buy one. sheeh. if you don't speed, or speed but don't think radar detector is useful, then get out of the thread. tons of other crap to waste money on on this site.

Been a radar detector user since early 2000s.
Passport, X50, Uniden LRD950, and now a R7.
R7 with the international firmware has been a joy to use.

Detectors really have gotten less effective because of the blind spot monitors setting them off in cars and also the increase in usage of instant on radar and LIDAR.
But if you pair it with Waze and use some defensive driving skills (i.e. don't speed alone, don't speed at night, slow down over hills/curves..) it's a pretty good strategy to keep cops off your back.

I am not promoting reckless driving or some timing saving thing by speeding.
But some of us drive cars that are capable of hitting 180+ without effort and it's easy to find yourself doing 80-85 on open stretches of smooth road.

So no, no ones asking you to buy a 500 dollar detector to put in your corolla so you can go 5 over in a school zone. Geez.

Damn i would def grab it at this price but now at over 600 after tax is not that tempting. Many other retailers have similar price so not slick enough to pull the trigger just yet.
